Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Ticks this time of year are likely to be small ones .Contrary to popular belief they dont latch into the skin straight away.It takes several hours or even a day to bury in as they like to migrate to the ears and armpits and if noticed soon enough ,they can be removed by hand or tweezers[ if your not a ruffty -tuffty ground worker].Squeeze the head of the tick between thumb and fingernail to produce a satisfying click !.Unnoticed ticks ,usually around the ears ,that have buried in can be removed with a dab of parafin but dont pull it off until the body withers. The mouth parts withdraw as they die.Good tick hunting. Lennard 10
I wouldn't bother try to smother them with something and our stump fingers aren't a very handy tool to remove ticks. Buy one of these plastic tick remover tweezers at a pharmacy or vet. They work real well, fit snuggly over the head of the tick with an open space for the body of it. This way you can turn the tick out of the skin by its head without pressing the gut content out of the body. cheers, L
