jon_h 0
I tried using nv on a friends rifle and it is hard to judge distance. However the rabbits dont get nv shyness as they do with torches and is good for clearing a large open area when there are lots of rabbits. Expensive though so i go for torch on scope myself. The night vision I'll be getting in the next few weeks will be an add on to my day scope so my mill-dots will do the range finding for me as well as an Infrared laser I already have made myself HAVE A LOOK HERE Quote Link to post
harry mac 1
What a load of crap your chatting mate tramps hide up in shop doorways usually and if they are in the field then I think they will have a camp fire to keep warm On one of my shoots I actually have a nomad (homeless) tramp and I'll tell you this he don't live in the fecking field, he lives in the wooded part for extra shelter... I think you are a bogus lefty as your left wing nanny state opinion has raised that sixth sense alarm bell in my head, giving me the view you are an anti?? If I'm wrong then I will apologise, but you've got to admit the statement you've just made here was totally NANNY STATE GONE MAD! ATB Lee... Lets get a couple of things straight before we go any further. First thing is I don't post on this and other boards to get insulted by people who, quite frankly I don't know fron Adam. Secondly I've been shooting in one form or another for over 30 years. Currently I participate in most types of shooting from 177 target air pistol to service rifle target shooting. I have been on both ends of the lamp when it comes to illuminating people, and being in that beam is quite worrying because you don't know just what the bloke at the other end of it is going to do next. Oh and pack it in with the Mockney slang, I don't "chat". There's only one of us so far that has run off at the mouth. Quote Link to post
Timelord 0
Go away you left wing mole we don't need your nanny state crap here. bloody target shooters are all the same bunny cuddlers. I mean homeless people in fields from tramps to now yourself having lamps pointed at you Quote Link to post
Guest Scuba1
Harry Mac At the end of the day it is not illegal to have a scope mounted lamp and if one is out in the field alone, I think it is safer as well because one does not have to fiddle about with holding a lamp and balance the gun on top of it. On another note Harry If you have pulled a bird mate, take her home or to a nice restaurant etc. having a leg over in a stubble field and being worried about lamps just leaves a bad impression. And if you see a person in camo gear lamping for rabbits it should make you think, that you may have ended up in the wrong "red light " district and have a pint less on the next pub crawl. Just my two cents worth. Happy hunting Michael Edited April 11, 2009 by Scuba1 Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Immagine you are lamping one night with your scope mounted lamp and you happen to illuminate a homeless person in your field, Same could easily be said for shooting in the day. or someone walking down a lane 300 yards away, Same answer as above. or a courting couple under a bush (you get what I'm on about). Bear in mind that at that moment it's not only your lamp that's pointing at them, it's your loaded and made ready rifle."Never let your gun pointed be at anyone". Feck me some folk have an active imagination! if you're not competent enough to tell the difference between a blokes arse going up & down like a fiddlers elbow and a coney, you shouldn't be shooting an air rifle. Currently I participate in most types of shooting from 177 target air pistol to service rifle target shooting. That explains it! "Cleetus, we done got ourselves another one of those paper punching types, boy!" Quote Link to post
droid 11
Don't bother listening to 'Bright Eyes'. Try 'Angel of Death' by Slayer. Gets you in the mood....... Cool but Slipknot, Pantera, Sepultura will kick their butts all day Poofs. Venom: 'Aaaargh!' off At War With Satan. All the lyrics are in the song title Technology....the simpler the better IMHO. If it can go wrong it will, eventually. Quote Link to post
harry mac 1
Perhaps I should have known better than to try and write like an adult amongst Airgun World readers. Rant away Timelord, you're talking to yourself from now on. Quote Link to post

Freddy Watts 1
This is supposed to be a thread about technology and as far as i know you can't mount a tramp to an air rifle so why mention it. Lets keep it on topic. This thread has already been restarted once because people could not stay on topic so if you want to talk about something else then please do it somewhere else. Start another thread of whatever. As for Night vision. I would love an NV add on for my scope as alot of the rabbits I shoot seem to be very lamp shy. However the only problem with all this technology is as always £££££££££'s. But night vision is definately one bit of technology that I would love to have. What do people think about range finders, I know alot of people use them all the time but are they just another gadget? Freddy Quote Link to post
Guest Scuba1
Ballz To Making Your Guns Weight 10 Stone , Standed Gun Gun For Me I Bought it Like That Im Happy With It , I Can Hit Stoof With It , Kills Stuff What I Want it For , Pigeons , Maggies , Rabbit All Good Well a scope mounted lamp is actually lighter then a torch held under the fore end, as the battery is clipped of to the belt and with it being sat on the scope, it does not upset the balance of the gun as much either. NV does not way that much either. Now a bipod......... I am not so sure about that one but I am going to try one anyway. Can't make a comment if I have not given it a go at lest. Just me I suppose. Try anything once. ATB Michael Quote Link to post
Guest Scuba1
What do people think about range finders, I know alot of people use them all the time but are they just another gadget? Freddy I used them for my centre fire rifles but I think they are a bit over the top for an air gun as the ranges are so limited. A bit of practice with judging the distance and a mil dot retic. will do just fine if you stay in the effective range for hunting. I for one am not one for " long distance plinking " where it could make sense to have one. ATB Michael Quote Link to post
Freddy Watts 1
I have never used one myself I was just wondering. Couldn't see the point in buying one for my air rifle either as for the distances I am shooting I can estimate pretty well the distance and if not I pace out some obvious markers like a tree and work from there. Works for me and walking is cheaper than a rangefinder to. Keeps me fit aswell. Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Does anyone use a range finder when hunting? The closest I've come to that is a mil-dot ret on one of my scopes, but to be honest I find the dots distracting compared to a normal 30-30 ret. What do you guys think? Cheers. Freddy Watts 1
I like my mildots it just makes things that little bit simpler for me with practice. Once you have worked out POI at certain ranges the dots help you aim much quicker at distances different to your zero. I don't use a range finder as the places I currently shoot I have walked many times and know the ranges rougly anyway so its just a case of looking at where I am and where the target is and then know how long your strides are.
