FOXHUNTER 5,021
I had a phone call the other evening from a woman who asked me to sort out a fox problem. She had been given my number from another farmer that I do fox control for. She had found some lambs with their heads chewed off and wanted the fox dealt with. The land has never been lamped so I was looking forward to seeing a few foxes. Me and David went last night . There was a full moon but I was confident of catching the culprit I lamped a few rabbits and hares all of which just sat , obviously never been lamped before. I than caught those tell tale orange eyes glaring back at us from a patch of rough grass , David was on the bipod and that was a vixen accounted for . We never saw any more foxes so hope that this is the culprit. I showed the farmer the fox and she was delighted she gave us a carrier bag of lamb to go home with!! FOXHUNTER 5,021
I understand what youre saying mate but unfortunately this fox was travelling from a neighbours land who is a fox lover and actually feeds them so looking for the cubs is not an option. Quote Link to post

IanB 0
End of the day, no one likes killing vixens with cubs (apart from foxhunter ) but if you have permission on the basis you have to control vermin, and a farmer is losing stock or they are causing other predation then, they must be controlled using any legal way possible, be it terriers, snares, guns... Part and parcel of it, its not sporting at all just pure control.. Quote Link to post
martin 332
Killing nursing vixens isn't nice, but,as someone that has to control pests on a farm then it has to be done, that,or lose the permission.....................'M' Quote Link to post
adbirdy 14
FH, An unpleasant job as you say, but it does have to be done, if we didn't keep the landowner happy I'm sure someone else soon would!! By the way FH how do you find the orange filter compares to a red one? Better or just different? Ade Quote Link to post

By the way FH how do you find the orange filter compares to a red one? Better or just different? Ade The amber filter is far superior to the red filter as it allows more of the beam to penetrate the darkness. I used to use a red filter a lot but soon switched to the amber once I saw the benefits. The red filter is fine for rabbits but foxes are shot at greater distance and I found that you struggle to see the fox clearly sometimes but this isnt a problem with the amber filter. Try it mate you wont be disappointed Quote Link to post

OK BUD BUT THIS IS WHERE GOOD TERRIER WORK COMES INTO ITS OWN NO LONG LINGERING DEATHS cubs cant always be found mate fact of life in fox control !! if that vixen was hit by a car who would look for the earth then ? end result is the same, a litter that wont need dealt with later in the year. as fh said how can you find an earth that isnt on your patch. if your asked to shoot a fox on one of your permissions you shoot it.......end off. great result mark another for the tally. good to see david back on song again Quote Link to post
