.22 for dispatching fox

Recommended Posts

Hi all

was just wondering if i can get a .22 rimfire with a silencer for dispatching foxes in cage traps.

i am getting more and more calls for foxes in domestic situations taking chickens, at the moment i cage trap and then once caught i have a set of wheels i attach to one end of the trap to wheel it to my truck i then load it and drive to my smallholding where i shoot them point blank with the .410

i`m sure that this is not the best method and must be upsetting for the caught fox but even a .410 is far to loud to shoot in a "normal" back garden so i dont have another option at the moment

on the application for a firearms you have to put where it will be used this obviously cant apply for what i want also can you by law as a pest controller shoot a .22 rimfire in a domestic garden?

any advise would be good or if anyone has any ideas on a different method please share it with me

thanks

Is a silenced 410 an option?? Hushpower modded one might do the job?

Save you an FAC application

can you not get a .22lr pistol for the means of "humane dispatch" and if your a pest controller surely they should grant an open. as for the .22 in a garden i think you are allowed because i remember seeing a pest controller shootin foxes in a customers garden on TV with one.

What worms could there be? if terrier men are allowed pistols for dipatching foxes and deer stalkers for deer, surely a proffessional pest controller would be allowed one as a "tool of his trade" if you like. but the FEO is the one who decides all

Define professional, most areas grant .22 pistols to keepers and their assistants my head of licensing said he would only grant to these,I now have both though 410 shot pistol and restricted to two shot .22, its all about how you make your case

Get a hushpower moderator fired on the .410 think there around the £55 mark on the hushpower site and providing you have access to a lathe should be easy enough to fit yourself .. we use these in a built up area with subsonics and with normal .410 carts and to be honest theres really not that much noise difference.

And with regards using a .22 in the garden i would have thought it would have been fine aslong as theres a safe backstop, however .22 have a thing to ricochets maybe a .17hmr would be more suitable??

its bit pointless as it was just a suggestion but surley a man whos job involves dipatching foxes in closed area has more use for a pistol than a keeper who could use snares rifles and other methods, if you catch my drift. but as we all know Firearms departments differ greatly.
