trappa 518
Im going to collect some hens on good friday. The lad said on the phone he had light sussex (was it light)? for a tenner each, marans for £12 each or hi sex for £6.50 I think they are a bit dear to be honest but i am prepared to pay... Pros and cons please boys, pros and cons... I only want eggs- i doubt very much i will be eating them. cheers trappa
Sighthound 49
Had light Sussex not bad layers also had Marrans they were also good layers and their eggs are a nice dark brown. The Hisex browns will give the best egg production, why not get a mixture of all the above? I'm just starting a new chicken run after not having them for 8 years can't wait
trappa 518
cheers sighthound. Thats not a bad idea actually! never thought of that! I was planning on getting half a dozen marans first, but at the prices quoted, decided on 4, but might get 2 marans and 4 hi-sex now!! great idea

Neal 1,873
In one of my chicken books, there's a story about a Sussex cockerel beating up a fox. I prefer to have my bantams of different breeds simply so that it's easy to tell them apart.
