information on ferrets in season

Recommended Posts

still researching on ferrets before i buy i have read loads on the dietry and housing requirments but want to know everything before i buy and iam still frightened to death of them so am trying to get used to my mates ones i have managed to touch one and not run away when its on the floor so im getting there and also going to be doing a bit of ferreting

but i have a few questions;

what age do you start working ferrets? and how do you introduce them?

i read somthing about if they are not sexually active it can kill them, is that true? and do you need a visectomised hob?

also i dont understand the hole being in season thing, how long are they in season? can you work them when they are in season?

any other advice would be great :)

I'm not trying to have a go but the same people who are Reading this thread read the one about you walking past an empty water bottle for two days so mentioning that you intend to buy is going to provoke the response you got. if you had just said I'm trying to over come my fear etc etc. the response would of been totally different you would of got lots of advice because people would respect/admire you for trying to over come this fear and then when the time comes for you to own a ferret in a year or so depending on how it goes you would then be congratulated for you success, so can you see what difference a couple of words make.

if you are not intending to buy anytime soon there is no need to say so because all every one is concerned about is the animal not getting the care and attention in needs because you are so scared.

your post gave the impression that you were going to get a ferret to help you over come your fear, whereas you shouldn't get a ferret until you have overcome your fear totally.

Thats exactly how it came across to me , the only reason for getting a ferret is to '' overcome'' this fear , i fear horses but i simply wouldnt get one to overcome that fear :laugh:

no i didnt mean that i ment i need to fully overcome my fear first

Oh come on genning up on food housing & jills in season is not going to make you wake up tomorrow & think '' hey i dont fear ferrets anymore'' , do me a favour

The only way you or anyone else is going to get to see how they behave & handle is to get hands on , so unless your mates with ferrets are going to allow you to stay with them indefinatly the only other way is to own your own

Which is exactly what you planned to do , well a bit of advice , dont expect to get a kit over the bank holliday & expect it to lay in your arms batting its eyes at you , get real :laugh:

Well who better to ask then, you have friends who seemingly are experienced dont they give you the information you need , especially on the behaviour front

Oh right , so you dont really think your friend is experienced enough to give you the info you need , look best think to do is contact the nearest rescue & arrange to go there , they will allow you to handle dozons of ferrets , then if you do get one, get a neutered ferret from a rescue , no need to worry about seasons & possible problems with behavoiur at that time of year
