Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
8 dogs inc pups. Terriers & lurchers- Please people be vigilant. These thefts are increasing & how they hell they keep hiding the dogs is a mystery to me. They are being moved faster than we can track them at the minute. PLEASE chip you dogs/tattoo as well, neutering if you dont want to breed. You shouldnt have to but the more you do to make them noticeable & traceable the less likely they are to be nicked. There is a new collar out- its not cheap but I defy ANYONE to cut it off. £250 has built in tracker & responds to computer & mobile phone. It is lightweight, waterproof & after 5 mins with pliers, scissors & knife - we had made about 2mm nick in the material. Reacon every dog will have one before long

Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
The dogs nicked Terriers & a lurcher- will get exact type & numbers. The collars have been 3 years hard work by people who have been in talks with Doglost, they have ironed out all the problems before the launch. i've got info sheets- will scan them & down load on here. As far as I remember they work the same as a tracker- you can activate with a phone call then monitor whereabouts. Let me find the info cos although they seem expensive to start with -considering the cost of been without a dog. There will also be an emergency number that you can call to locate as well- been a long time coming but finally something that will bite back.
skycat 6,173
What a brilliant idea! Once the thieves get to hear about it there won't be much point them nicking the dogs.
leec 132
why not just put a little tracker in the dog like a micro chip?
Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
That will probably come in time- then you ll still get some one digging them out. At least with the collars they are around now
lurcherlass 5
why not just put a little tracker in the dog like a micro chip? We (at Lurcher Search) been trying to get something like this for dogs for years - it's the cost that's the problem plus, like hawk telemetry, it won't have a huge range. It'd be nice if someone could invent one like in cop films etc that you can pick up via satellite all over the country and then close in on Mind you, there's these GPRS (?) thingies out now so I s'pose that's a step in the right direction
Cold Ethyl 63
This is why my dogs are chipped and im trying to get them tattoeed as well but cant find anyone close enough that does it £250 is a hell of a lot of cash if you dont have it.But microchip is only £20-30 depending on the vet you use.Its not going to stop the dog being stolen nothing will but at least theres a chance of you gettting the dog back. Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
Anything you do to identify you dog is a deterrant, tag, chip, tattoos. The collars work like a car tracker & yes there are expensive. Not every dog owner can afford or will want to go to those lengths but far some people with specific expensive dogs the collar will be worth the money. The amount of dogs I see every week with no collar, lead ,tag, chip or tattoo is silly- if they do run off its a miricle any of them get returned.
Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
UPDATE FROM DOGLOST Sniff was picked up within a couple days of being stolen but the connention was not made. It was only when she went to Dogs Trust that a member of staff realised who she was and contacted the owner last Friday. He went along and confirmed it was Sniff but has had to agree to have her rehomed as he would not risk using his kennels in case she is taken again. The terriers are still all missing although there have been attempts to recover them by the police but the information came too late and they have now been moved. We still need to keep an eye open for these. DateLogged 27/04/2009
