jamie2004live 163
some of the stone artificials in my area have been there for 20 years or more and rarely hold foxes seem to prefer the big bankers... however a lot of these have decent holes in close proximity. the earth i build is quite a way from nearest holes so should be beter. and there is only a section of plastic in the middle of the earth so nealy all stone foxdropper! Guest miller1989
The plastic pipe is only 8ft long no bigger and the artificial must stretch in total a good 25 meters. Are stone was limited and it was hard work digging it all by hand so even if it doesnt hold there called ARTIFICIAL for a reason so it will be used one way or another! digger63 3
Be interesting to hear if the plastic pipe held at all !. There's an artificial earth made completely of plastic pipe near where i live,it holds Badger's and i suspect the odd fox, over the years ive run terriers through loads of plastic land drains and they just dont seem to hold well,no matter how well positioned, strangely ive had quite a few out of metal pipes. ps i no longer dig and dont own a terrier,i just keep an eye on local earths while mooching about, old habits die hard i suppose. We will soon see mate roll on next season, but if it does not hold and we use it just for bringing on the pups will still be all worth it! Once the pups are up and running if it dont hold we may consider removing the plastic pipe and putting in some more stone! Fingers crossed this doesnt need done as it would be best left alone to weather! thanks for the adivice! Atb miller Quote Link to post

Surely spreading the dogs scent all round it wont encourage stuff in.... Quote Link to post

waidmann 105
never had any problems with plastic pipes(i always cut a slit down the bottom with an angle grinder to let water out and lay the with a slight drop from the "kettle" to the exit). what size pipe are you lads using?? i have always used 20cm for fox and 25-30 cm for badgers.i have found you only get young badger in the 20cm pipes(summer time). i have always made them at leats 6 meters long either a "y" or a two tube straight. they are very productive still and have been there for years. waidmann Quote Link to post
