Never heard of anyone working them here, theyare classed as Toy group in the U.K., but on the continent they are bigger and classed in the Hound group and are worked, believe or not, on hares, though to what degree of success I can't say!!!

Ive only ever once seen one and it was a timid skittery thing,looked like a hare would give it a good hiding if it ever caught one?????

20 odd year back a friend of mines mum had 2, we used to sneak them out ferreting and bushing, never saw them catch a rabbit in the open on a run so to speak but they used to pull them out the gorse bushes and retreive them with a bit of a struggle. I have to agree they were horrible little things, that looked like a stiff breeze would break them , but they were tougher than they looked

reckon they'd be ok for training, if you slipped one 50 yds in front of the greyhounds, it would save setting up the lure.

My dad had one about 40 year ago it was i bit larger than they are these days.

he used it for bushing rabbit and rat it must have worked ok as dad would not keep a dog for long if it did not work to his expectations.

I seem to remember the only thing he was'nt happy about was its dislike of being cold.

I seem to remember it was stolen from the garden and my dad blamed travelers (pikeys) that had been on our estate the day before. Some ferrets went at the same time.

They might keep the mice down if you are prepared to live in a house stinking of dog pee.

Hi Longdog, forgive the pun, but what a load of crap!!! The reason any breed of dog pisses or shits in the house is because the owner is to lazy to house train it. I've had dogs, including whippets, that would rather die than crap in the house, and as for whippets being forced to go outside in the cold, my old dog loved the snow, the deeper the better, easier to catch hares for him !!!

Fouling in the house was one thing my old man would not tolerate so although i was only a nipper at the time he had the dog i would say it was definatly house trained.

In the area where i live rabbits are not in large numbers so hunting rabbit from the end of march to the end of september used to be frowned upon, Meaning it was usualy wet and cold when he was bushing for rabbits so having a dog that disliked the cold was a bit of an handicap i would think.

I owned a very slight whippet years ago who would take on allcomers would rat like any terrier and had a great nose the only fault was if it was too cold she would curl up on my coat or ferret bags etc once i commenced netting a warren. By coincidence she was stolen also from my back garden.

I saw a pair of italian greyhounds running in a lure coursing meeting held by the Northwest Lure Coursing Club they were show bred i beleive also father & son they gave a very good account of themselves the owner also said the father worked rabbits well they were approx 13.5/14inch to the shoulder
