spiderfly 111
i thought i would start a topic on what dogs i had and what dogs and have and for what reasons...... 1/ my first lurcher is a half laguna whippet x 1/4 collie x 1/4 greyhound... i got her at 12 weeks old .. i spent a lot of time with her and now she is a perfect allrounder does every thing ask she is a 100%worker day and night....takes all quarry.. 2/ then i was going for a second lurcher and i got a collie x salkuie x greyhound... at 12 weeks old ... i did everything the same with her and my other dogs showed her a few tricks but she was never any good on the lamp on rabbits i started her at 10 months and keep her till she was 2 no good on rabbits but when she seen a hare during the day is was shit hot...so i gave her 2 a friend for hares .... she was breed off twice and the pups are so pose to be execellent on hares....she never did a fox...fly is dead now because she hit a gate 1 morning and died..RIP fly.. 3/then i bought a working dog he was 18 months old 3/4 greyhounf 1/4 sakliue i had him for 6 months but a friend of mine wanted a good dog for rabbits and hares so he bought him.... he still has him... 4/ then i decided i would go for another whippet collie greyhound...i did what i did with the rest of them and she was a deadly little bitch for rabbits but she was only 21 inc so not must good on hares but a friend of mine need a dog to catch lives rabbits so he bought her i missed her badly ... 5/is my deerhound x greyhound blue he is only 11 months but he is as good as any o the rest so a bit more work and i can see another good allrounder.... 6/i`ve just got a third hound which is a wheatenxbullxdeerhoundxgreyhound and she is savage on rabbits but next year i`ll see what way she fairs on as an allrounder... just thought i would share what worked for me and what didnt so i`d like to hear what ye have and what ye had... thanks Quote Link to post

Guest reload
I have had 2 lurchers over the last 7 years, both work well.....One took a while to come to his best (2 years ish), the other did not need much encouragement and needed holding back. Before the ban we knocked over most things that moved regularly These days were on the rabbits Spiderfly over how many years did you have those lurchers, sound like they were some good ones. artic 595
6 years back i had a 1st cross Sal/Grey at 7yrs old he was still picking up hares, foxes and everything else that i wanted in my freezer. There are loads of old photos in EDRD of him. His was out of Jasper........... I also owned a 1st cross Collie/Grey she was also 7 and was still taking foxes, deer, the odd hare and a deft on rabbits! Now i have what i want, and im happy with what i've got. It will keep me busy. Quote Link to post

Tyla 3,179
i got my first lurcher 2 years ago, shes a bitsa of questionable parentage who i bought with more enthusiasm than knowledge. She did ok on the lamp at the end of last season but has spent most of this season injured so the verdict is still out as to whether she will be anything special, good or bad i will keep her though! The second is a JRTxWhippet out of working parents. He has only really beened worked this season as the other one is out of commission. He has excelled himself, a good ferreting dog, took 6 out 7 slips on the lamp the other night and has had success with other things too. The third is a mongrel terrier for bushing who was more of a rescue but does what i ask, mostly, and should become a useful part of the team next year. Quote Link to post
