lol.... why dont you get him to buy a gun for you on his ticket which you could use... or prehaps get yourself an air rifle.... theyre great fun.. good shooting though wont take much till you beat him

he lets me use the 22 and the 243 just dont think he will like it when i start outdoing him, cant afford my own...thats if i can got to beat a fox at 325 feet (i think he said) got a way to go yet haha

but must say i had been lamping with the gun a few times watching them and was bored but doing it yourself aint as boring.....still prefer to see my lurcher run as shooting somthing isnt as much of a chalenge but i still want the chalenge of improving on my shot

No it's not.

It is NOT illegal to shoot a firearm into trees, there is no law whatsoever against it. It is pretty silly, unless you're very remote. Remember, a 22LR bullet can go a mile with the correct angle and is still dangerous when it comes back down. If you happen to have a mile of clear background, there is nothing whatever stopping you from shooting upwards.

But for the rest of us, avoid, unless you have a VERY thick tree and your target is right slap bang in the middle of it.

ive shot pigeons out the trees with my hmr but not stood under them ! i was on a bank and the trees was in a vally below. i had a clear view all round. so why isnt that safe ?

as long as you no the ground and can see the back stop there is no difference in shooting down a hill side taking a pigeon off a branch. to shooting a pigeon on the floor down the hillside

The point made is that a HMR (lets say) has a 3km (2mile) range.

So if you shoot upwards, missed the target, the round would follow its projective path and head back down towards the ground, 3km is a long way and it could go anywhere - unless, as stated, you have a 3km backdrop of nothing-ness.(if it makes sense)

i wouldn't want to be hit in the face by a hmr/.22 round, even if it was fired a mile away :o

I just dont shoot into trees, not saying its wrong as Mr_logic says, if its a thick tree, you would ''hope'' that you would hit the trunk of the tree if you missed the target.

And if shooting down from a high point into a tree, fine, as long as you can see the ground under the tree.... :icon_eek:

compare it to shooting a bunny on the brow of a hill, you can be 50yds away, have bunny in the middle of the cross hairs - but if you missed, wheres the shot going....??

You wouldn't take the shoot due to this fact, likewise with trees in my view

"we put them on the floor and up trees and i hit 3 out of 3"

and if you missed the bullet would go where ?

you beat me to it mate....

please do not shoot into the trees ever.........

Accidents can and do happen...... enjoy yourself by all means, but caution is always recommended with any rifle.

Snap.

Damn... too slow... AGAIN- I was thinking exactly the same thing........- fine with an air rifle at squirrels or what not, but as soon as you get into rim/centerfire territory it's a whole new ball game

even if you'd hit it the bullet would still pass through....
