can you eat them...?

couple ov young lad's have being shooting mooerhen and leaving them dead is this a waste or could you eat them...?

we ate them when we were kids ,and there eggs ,ate coots as well ,you had to skin them first as it tasted bitter.theres no need to kill them nowdays though.

Hi.

I believe they used to be very high on the game list and gave good sport if they gained some height.

I have eaten them and they are very tasty.

The trick is to skin them and breast them. Add the breast to stews to thicken them.

Gamekeepers dislike them as they like to kill ducklings by drowning them.

I do not know how fishermen rate them though.

Special shoots were held years ago on the broads and hundreds were killed by guns in flat bottomed boats.

 

Not sure of spelling-broads,broards in Norfolk, lincolnshire?

why do they shoot them in the first place?

 

 

They can be a pest on a flight pond beacuse of thier territorial habbits and also are known to drown ducklings,,Same with canada geese,,Alough we left them alone on all our ponds and lakes.
