whippeter69 88
Was on my way to put some rabbit snares that i got from Woodga this morning on my bike to garden centre because other wise its a 5 mile cycle and going on the public footpath takes me only a 2 mile cycle, pulled up the the PUBLIC WALK gate to put my bike over and this car pulls up and a large man gets out and says "Excuse me" "what" i said "Thats a foot path, your not allowed your bike on it " I said, "whys that" "Because its a footpath" "Well im sorry mate, iv been using this PUBLIC WALK for years and whats wrong with me going down it on my bike" Me, having a bag of 25 fence snares, snare markers and a little hammer and a knife didnt want any problem with this so i said "Well im off now, but il be back later on my bike when your not in" (Because he came up from a lane on the foot path and he was on his way out) So on my way out i left his gate wide open because i was in front of him. So am i allowed on the PUBLIC FOOTPATH with my bike or not, just wondering because this dick dosent think so. Edited April 7, 2009 by whippeter69

borntoshoot 1
i think it is ok to cycle on footpaths.. lots of people do around my area, every footpath has tyre tracks in the mud
Matt 160
You are technically not allowed to ride a bike or a horse on a footpath. BUT, I don't see a problem if you don't bother anyone. Just get off and push if you pass anyone, and it should be fine.
shottyscotty 3
i do a lot of mountain biking and get this problem a lot and have been reported a few times and had the police come to my door. basically i allways get told the same thing as long as its not pathed.ie tarmac or concrete then your ok as long as you give walkers right of way and dont go flying round blind bend where you might not see a person.. i ride on downhill mountain bike tracks and still get idiods standing looking at jumps right where you cant see them. Kay 3,709
I also used the footpath to ride my bike as well , so long as you use your common sence & arnt a nuicence dont see a problem
whippeter69 88
Its about 1/4 of a mile long and its just a mix of mud, leaves, and broken branches. But obviously this twat had a problem with me doing it.
kennyboy 1
Best way to treat these morons is to start ranting about the damage they are doing to the environment by operating their poison belching machines. Whereas you, the eco-warrior, are doing your best to save the Earth. Usually takes about 10 mins till they skulk off with their tails between their legs.
whippeter69 88
Well we did ring the council to see if i was allowed to take my bike down it and they said it was against the law. But what the hell am i going to do, all i was doing was riding my bike for about 1/4 of a mile and the worst that can happen is me get a flay tyre(which did happen). But he has actually padlocked the public walk gate which is im sure illegal.

SEAN3513 7
footpath = walking only bridleway = horses/pedal cycles restricted byway = as above ( usually downgraded from a boat, see below) boat ( byway open to all traffic) = 4x4 , quads, horse, bikes, camels, armoured personel carriers ( you get the idea) so, i'm affraid he's right. rules are rules, think of the landowner and the damage that may be done ( a single bike won't hurt, but what if everybody did it) i have been on the other side of this debate...............many times. cheers sean
