Stray ferret

Recommended Posts

A stray sandy hob turned up on patio to-day, sniffing around my two albino's.

I think he must have been comeing a while, i rememer a nabour saying they had seen a fawn rat running about, and its just clicked he probably ment the ferret.

He was very very tame, but hungry and tired.

Never botherd when i picked him up.

Picked him up to check him over and the poor sod was apserlutly coverd in ticks and fleas, his coat was a real mess, little black what looked like egg's around his eyes.

Put him in a crate with some hay food and water.

At first i was going to do my best to sort him out, but i was out of my depth with him.

Personally i would have put the poor sod to sleep, i think it would have been best for him, but my nan wouldnt let me and told me to phone the rspca ( i dont want any slagging matches about them)

About half hour later a lady came (very nice too, stood talked to my two ferrets and what not)

She took him away hopefully to be sorted but she said it was more than likely they would put him to sleep.

I said if they can get him back to health ill take him (means haveing to build a seperate cage for time being though)

Hopefully i will get a call back about him, but i very much doubt it.

Shame really.

The fleas & ticks could have been sorted out pretty quickly & the ferret probably would have picked up in a few days once rid of the parasites , you at least picked him up rather than leave him to wander

Could well have done kay, but he was in a real mess with them, especially around his face.

Poor thing must have been out a while if it was riddled with them

I cant quite make my mind up on that, it was so tame, yet such a state. To me if its being out for a long time it would have gone more ferral and fear humans.

My thinking is someone has let it go after not careing for it and letting it get in a mess.

Paddy when i got home from work 3 yrs ago to find my old man had taken a ferret off a bloke who rang the house up & asked if we would have it i didnt think she would pull through , she was plastered in ticks, thin & basically on her last legs , withinn a week she doubled her weight, & was the nicest ferret i have ever had

She was also pregnant , she died last year & not once in the 2 yrs i had her did she ever be anything other than perfect , probably my favourite ferret ever was Gloria

I know there quite hardy animals.

If circumstances were different i would have kept him, but ive nowhere for him.

Winds me up to tink that someone could have let it go.

I went around block asking if anyone kept them, two people did and one of them wernt in the best of conditions.

I kind of hope they call back, but i doubt they will.
