Well, I bet theres many a poacher had his heart race when an unseen sheep has coughed at half eleven at night. :o

Having spent a reasonable amount of time out in the wilds in the dark i have seen a few things that were odd to say the least.

But, one of the scariest simply has to be the time when two hedgehogs were mating. I thought a woman was getting raped!! Me and my friend headed toward the noise, fully weapon'd up. I could just see ourselfs on Ethser Ransomes Hearts Of Gold!!

But, fortunately, no. It was two prickly piggys gettin; down and dirty.

they are actually pretty clam creatures and have run the dog around and through them they don't batter an eyelid but i never want to be face to face in the dark with one again.

JD i remember hearing the headgypig at it for the first time right outside my house i to thought someone was being raped its amazing how something so small can make such a loud noise

another time when i was very young maybe ten i was getting on my mums nerves so she sent me and the dog outside we lived on a farm and there were lots of calves around so i went to see them. there was a rather protective heifer in the field an she cornered me i thought i was gonna get seriously Hurt. my dog who was the best cattle herder we have had (my mum used to say bring them in and of she went she new her job so well.) squared up to this cow, it kept coming and she just lunged for it bit hold of its nose. it was swing its head trying to get her of and she just hung on i ran to get my mum and a soon as i was clear of the field she let go and legged it from the field too. she never bit a cow before or after she did it to protect me.

it was then that i realized how loyal the dog is and what they are willing to do for us. and how lucky i am to have them. she died in my arms when she was 16 and worked up to the day before she died we tried to retire her but she would follow us out to the fields and join in teaching the younger dogs.

Weirdest thing I have seen was when we used a pole to poke squirell dreys. You would expect them to climb out up the tree but when we poked one large drey two squirells jumped OUT of the tree to the floor, was quite a way up too, was so shocked I didn't even get a chance to shoot at them before they ran off... :icon_redface:
