Keeps 403
As I have mentioned previously, we have to continue ferreting at the moment, to make up for lost time, and to carry out some pest control work to keep our permission going; something we really don't want to lose. We arranged to meet with the keeper this morning for him to show us some previously unferreted new ground. mmmmmm nice rabbiting land and yes youve guessed it - our newest running land ah well you can't win em all Despite the land, we had a very good morning, only out for 4 hours and a good tally at the end. All worked well. We had the hobs out today, as now all the jills are very well in season, the old man first, grandsire to a lot of very good ferrets of ours - and his grandson, a this years kit we got back from Eggy who worked extremely well and I am chuffed to bits with how he performed - if he continues to take after his grandsire I shall be very happy indeed The old hob was at his best today, he's like a little tornado, and he had me and Mr Keeps absolutely worn out trying to keep up with him I have NEVER known a ferret as fast as he is, and I know where the term "greyhound" ferret comes from, he's as fast as the dogs, above ground and he doesnt go down unless he knows theres something there; he's getting on a bit now but he's just as fast -we havent had him out this season till today, he was "retired". Anyway, enough waffling, heres a few pics of our adventures in the wood today, a very fast day, and like I say, I'll bet theres not many people can say they are out of breath running about after a ferret this one was caught by mr keeps a long run ferret on a mission the young hob we got from eggy End of a very fast morning Quote Link to post

Guest Rod&dog
Your dogs must know the game when it gets to woods like those,,,Do you get any collisions? If my dog was working there held be Knocking himslef out every 2 minites. lol Quote Link to post
Keeps 403
wouldn t like to say too much really except that that you need fairly tough resilient dogs to run in places like that. It always looks daunting when you first look at it, but never seems so bad once you are in there working, you get "acclimatised" - some places are hard to stand up, I suppose the dogs must feel the same - when they run in it so regularly it becomes very normal - they were brought up from youngish pups rabbiting places like that nuala learning her trade as a youngster Quote Link to post
