Some can take squatters and the odd runner, in fact Langley Charmer who comes on here lamps his with some success.

It wouldn't be my idea of fun though - a dog who uses his nose, and can get to ground, running loose in the dark, could be asking for trouble.

Beddy X Whippet or Greyhound makes much more sense.

He's 17 and asking questions and researching the breeds before diving in and buying something that doesn't suit his needs and ends up rehomed within a year . . . . . . .id say that was responsible for a lad of his age.

just go and get a first cross beddy/whippet and tell your mother that beddlingtons have got wippet in em anyway just get one with plenty of coat she will not no any diffrent

In no way can a straight beddy catch rabbits on the lamp or in the day, I had three a few years ago of different breeding, the only time they caught any was in cover. My advice is to get one crossed with a greyhound or whippet.

I've got a 50/50 beddy/whippet. He's great around the house, you wouldn't know he's there.

 

He's only a pup, (7 months) and he's caught his first brace of coney on the lamp.

 

Don't think he could catch a daytime hare though. Not that it matters, because there aint no hares round here anyway!

heard a few stories bout pure beddys lamping surely some one on here has done it

 

i've got a beddy what i take lamping and he does catch one or two rabbits on the lamp, he's a bit on the leggy side at 18 half inches. i am a bit selectful where i take because i dont think he would catch anywhere, he also bushes and rats.

 

I have a cocker that catches on the lamp, jumps through cover after rabbits, catches in the hedge, will put up a vid next season.

well i no a lad who takes his patterdale terrier bitch lampin and seen run the beam and catch rabbits , and it can push rabbits out the rough in the day time and catch them but wouldent call it a lampin dog like but it dose do them, so i think a beddy will work a little better as they have slightley longer legs and more pray drive IMO

Blimey thats the last thing I'd do with a Patterdale, say if it runs off after the quarry and runs down a hole after it, it'd take some finding .

Mine has caught a few bunnies out in the open. but more in cover.
