now i have been running jessy next to the push bike as far as i can every day before my lungs start complaining but i cant peddle fast enough to make her run properly she just jogs, is this still building her stamina?

 

also i cant swim her, but is there any other good ways of building stamina?

Exercise and plenty of it will build up stamina. Don't worry about going really fast, its more about the distance, just so long as the dog isn't just walking but she doesn't need to be running full pelt to build the stamina up, a steady jog will be OK as long as you arent stopping every 5 minutes for a breather.

 

Think about those that run marathons, they've got incredible stamina but don't run the marathon like a sprinter would run the 100 meters.

 

How many miles are you taking her each day?

if you go fast eneuff to make the dog bounce along like a fast walk that will build it. i no that people that have pitbulls and staffies in the states that use there dogs for pulling comps run the dogs on a tredmill after a few weeks or so they are built like brick shit houses

can i ask how old the bulldog is? if it younger then 17/18 month otherwise hold it back till then

 

you might also try to combine treadmill work with bike also hand walking tie a hyde so the dog has to be on tip toes to reach it all the above will work swap them around to suit your dog and on top of all that make sure you have a final goal it is not fair to get a dog in shape and then just leave it there frustrated :D

Stamina is about milage rather than speed. I don't get the dogs above a canter for long haul stuff as the aim is to increase the heart rate enough to gain a training response which will intern effect the rest of the body without to much risk of injury. On other days use ball work etc to work the fast twitch muscle fibres to increase speed and fine tune the biomechanics. The base milage will give an improved cardio vascular system that can then recover more quickly when it comes to the faster stuff, strenghten bones and joints to reduce injury and increase transport to & from the working muscles. In the warmer months a trot will have less chance of causing overheating than a canter so alowing decent milage. Build up gradually and wait till a dog is full grown before doing to heavy a milage.

road walking builds stamina

 

 

Id strongly disagree with that....road walking builds muscle not stamina....a dog in reasonably good condition on a cool day who is kept hydrated will walk pretty much all day without ever really needing to work hard.....do this over a period of weeks and you will end up with a heavily muscled dog with literally no endurance when it comes to running.

For a dogs endurance to be improved you need to open his lungs up from time to time and you wont do this by just walking him.

I give mine long walks and i mean long walks covering alsorts of terain i,e grass, tarmac, hilly areas i let them have a run off a chase rabbits and then thety are put on the lead to have a steady walk over a period of time you will see a difference in the dog believe me, another good stamina biulder is getting the dog to swim good muscle biulder aswell
