thumb stick

hi all whats the basics of making a thumb stick i have my chosen branch/stick all cut down and shaved so what do i do with it now do i leave it to dry out for a month or 2 or can i stain it and varnish it now. id like it to last a few years so any help realy would be good i think its off a ash or hazel tree (silver/grey bark)

alright people i'm gonna be a knob here, what is a thumb stick? i saw the pic of moxy's, but it looks like some kind of walking stick and what are they used for, if not just for decoration/show :thumbs: jack

 

It is what it says on the tin you knob!!!

 

Its a walking stick, but instead of holding it as you would do with any other conventional stick, you hold it between your thumb and forefinger, with your thumb cradled within the U.

 

Not really any special purpose for the stick just down to personal preference i suppose.

well get a spaz chariot then and stop trying to be ill with your limp :laugh: and never mind what it says on the tin,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,is says thumbstick, not walk-stick,,,,,,,,,,,,,and i'll KNOB you :tongue2::thumbs:

You will need to season and dry your timber long before you finnish with varnish.

 

This is one i fettled up. Yew top on a hazel stick.

put a point in the other end an its a rifle rest
