Guest JOEB
Thanks KYE, And fuzzy, I looked at those SAKO Quads.............and I wonder if anybody has experience of them? Normally anything multi purpose is a bad trade off of everything. JOEB Quote Link to post
Guest fuzzylampkin
theres a guy on PW who reckons they are really good. SAKO do make good rifles so hes probably right. Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
We sell them in the shop, they are horrible, a load of crap, proper nasty, they do shoot though. Sako should have called them "tikka,s" they are not sako quality. Why they have discontinued the finnfire is beyond me, infact, they have just brought out a wooden stock, for the quad, because its plastic stock is so shite. Guest fuzzylampkin
are they the only gun with interchangable barrels on the market? Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
Yes, reasonably easily.Venom arms [now liquidated] did a custom conversion, to the finnfire, enabling it to switch barrels, also , they did the same to the ruger 77/22, just before the quad came out, which were both better than the quad.2 out of the 4 calibres are no good, ie mach 2 and .22 magnum, and i seriously doubt , anyone in this country has the license, to posses all 4. Guest A Sick Old Man
I would go for a .22 Joeb, the .17 has its uses but is a bit loud. Even with a good moderator it has a right crack to it, the ammo is supersonic so you can not get rid of that night shattering shot, but the sub sonic .22 is as quiet as a silk worms fart You must be wary of your back drop as those rounds bounce off anything, whereas the .17 will shatter on impact so is a bit safer in that respect. Also with the .22 you can use a high velocity round and have the best of both worlds, silence and also the ability to shoot at some distance with moderate noise. I would get in touch with "The Bald 1 " as to what rifle to buy, I like the Ruger 10/22. But you can not beat a CZ, get one with a tuned trigger and screw cut of course, Baldie will best advise you on the finer points. Good luck mate, Sick  Quote Link to post
Kye 77
If you are gonna get .22 mate, i would highly recomend the Ruger 10/22...i have two, and i LOVE 'em...ive shot all manner of game, in a number of states, and in a number if terrains...from 105F in the desert of Nevada, to -20F in Northern Arizona..they can be a little fussy on ammo, but i shoot Federal solid points through mine (98 cence for 50 rounds at Wal-mart!..lol.) never had a problem with it!...some dont liek them, and maybe im lucky with the ones i have, but i can easily get 1" groups at 100 yards, and 1/2" at 50-60 yards...im not much of a shot either, so a good shot could do better!... Kye,.. Quote Link to post
Guest fuzzylampkin
i was talking to the geezer in the gun shop about the ruger 10/22 and he was slating them he reckons they were rubbish Quote Link to post
pegandgun 52
sako finnfire excellent Quote Link to post
Kye 77
Well Fuzzy, im sure he was going buy personal exsperiance...that all you can go buy i guess!.. But the ones i have used, and the ones i have are very good, and i have put thousands of rounds through them in the harshest climates you can get... If you keep them clean they run well...its kinda bad me saying that though...i think i have stripped mine down twice since i have had it, and it still cycles great, and hasnt messed me about!.. Im sure the bloke in the shop would be happy to sell you a more flash, fancy and exspensive model!..lol...he is a salesmen after all!..lol. Kye.. Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
Straight out of the box, unless you are going to use high velocity ammo, like Kye does, which is what the gun was made for, then yes, they are rubbish, because they dont function properly with subsonics. If you are prepared to fit , one or two replacement parts, they can be made to function flawlessly with any ammunition, i should know, i,ve now built, getting into the hundreds.Folk, who rubbish them, have never shot anything other than a standard one, or, more like your gunshop owner, dont understand them, and dont know how to strip them. Guest fuzzylampkin
i know when i was looking for a rimmy the guy in the shop put me right off them, but ive seen some right good custom ones though, when i brought me anschutz i made the mistake of buying 300 cci stingers ive still got 299 of them in me cabinet as ive got no use for them too noisy, oh well live and learn i suppose Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
I,ve got a volquartsen 10/22, that shoots tighter groups at 50 yards, than my £1000 anschutz. Quote Link to post
