I now have my pair in together copulateing which is time consumeing and worrying at times, theres alot of stress and time invloved in this game but still a wonderful hobby..... Quote Link to post

I now have my pair in together copulateing which is time consumeing and worrying at times, the 4 Imprints and near full on standing which is alot of time and work aswel as the peregrines, its alot of stress and work invloved plus the price of food has rocketed, these things have to be taken into account when birds are priced up unless gifted... thankfully only a few of mine will be staying on these shores ........ jasper65 6 Posted April 4, 2009 Report Share Posted April 4, 2009 Ive been out with a few gosses and to tell the truth i didnt like the birds chasing quarry over the horizon and then looking for it with the telemetry for the next few hours.I once told a falconer that i would like to fly a goshawk out of trees following on and he told me to get a harris,so i did No need for the redface mate I have seen some pretty average Harris's and seen some that was red hot. I'm sure the more average one's was flown too high and never in condition . Harris's are one Hawk that will fly at silly weights well above their best! if there is one hawk that has a flying weight and a optimum Hunting weight its a Harris, ok you can mug a few but are they at their best? you could get away sometimes with flying a P/R Gos out of condition at high weights but usually in the oposite direction and difficult on the recall....... A lad Kevin Nelson was well into his harris's and brought one down in the late 90's working with a springer! at that time I was flying Gos's with Bob Haddon regular and as expected did take the pee out of Kevin before hand. the thing is he had the last laugh as this male worked its bollox off over the spaniel and boy did they work well together, I enjoyed the day and enjoyed watching a Harris work at its peak condition..... I only jest about Harris's for a joke! but they fitted a niche in falconry much needed back then, I love my old breeding pair of which the female is now 16 and wouldn't part with them ever...... Jasper Know what you mean mate i don,t think a lot of people really know what a fit hh at the correct weight is capable of.Hope to get mine going better this season as i got him late on last year.I do fly mine 7 days a week and fly him a bit sharper than most people Quote Link to post
