harrycatcat 31
I fetched 3 Lohman browns 13 days ago from a reputable supplier which were "point of lay". Their coop has loads of hay in, fresh hay in the nest boxes every 2 days. They have a run about 15ft x 6ft. They have as many layers pellets they need, fresh water, loads of greens but have not layed an egg yet. Have I missed something or should I start sharpening the knives up. Everyone I have talked to say they will need to settle in but kinell how long do you give them?

harrycatcat 31
more time harry what age did you buy them in at ?? like jh say point of lay could be 6 wks off.. I have just rung the chap I got them off as I didn't ask how old when I picked them up I just thought they would start laying as soon as I put them in the coop. Hit the ground running as they say. I even got a book about different ways of having eggs thought I would be snowed under with them. Never had any before see. Anyway he said when I got them they would have been 18 weeks approx so they are now 20 weeks ish so another 4 weeks before an explosion of eggs then. Never mind I love having them anyway. Some people think fish tanks are therapeutic I think my three Lohmans and the Blue Hybrid cockerel are therapeutic and good fun. Thanks for everyone's responses its a learning curve for me. Neal 1,873
Sorry! I was trying to say, "it could be worse," but it didn't quite come out right. Mine were bought mid-summer and so by the time they were old enough to lay it was too late in the year for them to start. As a plus point, one of them actually started on Boxing Day later that year, but I've never had that since.
beagle1812 0
I had the same problem with my chickens, told they were POL within the next week or so, 5weeks later they were popping beautiful eggs out almost every day. Just let mother nature do her thing:)
