Do you clean the barrel of your air rifle ? If so , do you do it because you believe that you get a better performance from you gun ? Or do you leave it , and rest assured that its `bedded in ` and this causes the gun to be more consistent .

 

I have put over 2000 pellets through my HW100T still very accurate never cleaned or oiled.

never clean mine, just use pellet lube.

 

i do strip the action from the stock and give everything a good clean, and oil everything up, bolt, trigger ect.

 

with PROPER gun oil.

Hiya pal , so would you say that the pellet lube that you use keeps the barrel fairly clean , as in as much as it stops any residue sticking ` leading `to the barrel thus in effect `cleaning ` it ? And if this is the case , do you / would you notice any difference in accuracy if you went through say 200 un lubed pellets ?

 

Pellet lube is ok if used sparingly.

I tried a product called TEFFSPRAY which is a teflon loaded oil. Difference it made to accuracy was nil. when I ran a soft cleaning sponge through the barrel after 200 rounds, the amount of residue that came out stunned me. So was it just the barrel was dirty? I think not, but was this a sign that the barrel could get clagged up using lube? I think yes.

Every 500 or so shots I use the soft brush In my little bisley barrel cleaning kit with a small amount of oil on it. It takes a good 5 mins to come out clean so I think its worth doing. And pin point accuraccy returns after about 30 shots or so.

Firstly I never clean my barrel and would never put any foreign object in it either I only use Air Arms Field Diablos and sometimes JSB exacts in the heavy flavour .

 

As for pellet lube you only need 2 drops maximum put into a tin of 500 pellets and then reseal the tin. Then begin to roll the tin in your hands gently to work the oil into all the pellets. I'm sure that after you've put 50 or so of the lubricated pellets through the barrel it would have cleaned the barrel enough, without removing the bedding of lead through the rifling..

 

This is all a bit GAY or field target tin chicken loving crap I mean if you had to weigh your pellet to the 1/100 of a grain then lube it up before you shoot it then the bunnies will be gone

 

A brand new tin of pellets (good quality ones) will come to you dry and IMO shoot better than a lubed pellet all day long.....

I hear ya Lee , but the question really is not about lube , thats been thrown into the mix. Really its about barrel cleaning . Ive read enough about it to say that , the people who clean their barrels believe that their rifles are superior in accuracy and its down to a clean barrel , likewise , the people who dont clean it belive the same is down to a `bedded in ` barrel .

I'm now about to clean my S200 actually, not the Barrel though, just the Stock where It's gathered dust from me not using It!

Then I'll be taking It off to work (Smallholding), doing a couple Hours of work and then having a little play with It..

buster............the pellet lube helps to keep the barrel clean, and if you use NAPIER pellet lube you will see a difference in accuracy.

 

try 20 dry pellets and 20 lubed pellets at 35 yards...........you will be suprised.

 

also interesting if you put the same shots over the chrono.

 

a very small amount is needed ( 3-4 drops per tin)

 

have a go mate its only a couple of quid, see what you think.

I clean my barrel every now and again, i never knew about bedding in n all that. ive tried that pellet lube [bANNED TEXT], but i wasnt that impresses, i didnt realy notice that much better acuracy (but that mite just be my shit shootin), but i did notice that loads of fluff n grit n that stuck to the pellets, which is a bit shitty realy

I clean mine after ive been out with it if ide had plenty of shots, but i just use the material brush..dont bother with the wire ones. Then dab a bit of gun oil on the brush and oil barrel.
