gossy 3
im currently there doing a ND in game and wildlife management. what a load of sh*ite this college is now. its almost as if the college is embarressed of the career we love and enjoy. they try to hide alot of the goings on i a keepering job and has turned into any normal college since it merged with andover compared to a specialist outdoor course college. sooo glad im leaving soon and going into a job. its such a shame as previous lads ive spoken to have said how good it was a few years back but now its gone downhill. after the first year, the lecturers sort of give up with you, loose all time they used to take giving good, in-depth teaching and focus on the new first years. its like your pushed to the back of the pile. alot of the courses and tickets we were promised to complete have never even been mentioned and the few that do are put off due to them saying there no funding its a real shame as i was really enthusiastic in the months leading up to me starting. just my 2p worth cheers buddy all opinions are welcome and youre honesty is appreciated.must admit youve got me worried now do you go on work placements on the game and wildlife coarse?? if yes how has that gone for you?? do the others on your coarse share your opinion?? gossy. Yes, same here - I'd like your opinion on the work placements. I'd always rated Sparsholt very highly but if they have cut back on the short courses and tickets that would be a concern. If the work placement programme has deteriorated that would be even more so. They were always quite proud of the placements they got Quote Link to post
georgehare 0
I left sparsholt about a year ago, i was in the year above 'youngairgunner'. The name of sparsholt college still looks good on a CV but its not as good as it used to be. My first year at college was good but wasnt as practical as i'd hoped. Second year was % deer work so i left early when i got offered a job. The main thing is the college getting cut back on funding and instead of staying as 'the best gamekeeping college' they tried to make all the courses average. Without a doubt you learn 10 times more out on work experience than when at college. Basically, for all the lads starting next year. Make the most of work experience placements. Try and get to big/well connected estates and work your balls off, try and make a name for yourself, work every bank holiday/weekend you can and you'll find keepers will want to help you find a job when u leave. You will do 2 three week work placements but you get loads of time off so try and work that too. I dont regret going at all, i had a hell of a time there, walked straight into a job and have now moved onto a great job on a very good grouse moor. Jobs are hard to find when leaving college but if u make contacts when you can i.e work experience then you'll find it alot easier. Hope that makes sense and any more questions just ask.
