lurchergrrl 1,441
Lurchergirl, although you missed my point, you've unwittingly proven it for me, your a foriegner as you say, you've come to Great Britain and settled i bet you've been embraced and welcomed by the vast majority of british people that you've encountered, and yet with breath taking arrogance you have just bad mouthed us, of course weve got bad un's here but i bet even they wouldnt dream of going abroad and offering opinions like that to their host nation. The reason you feel totaly at ease and free to do this, is because of the fear and shame thats become associated with saying anything remotely patriotic about England. As a foriegner you may not see this, but im sure many british nationals do. So you see i wasnt trying to slur any particular nationality but rather asking my countrymen/women not to be negative about our country. Breathtaking arrogance? The only thing breathtaking is that, in this day and age, people will openly slag others off because of where the come from and make small-minded remarks about entire races based on meeting a few bad apples, or on their own blinkered perception of politics. See, if the Brits were to be viewed that way by other countries, they would be considered a nation of drunken, chavy football hooligans. This country has so much to be proud of. I know people here - and expats in my own country - who are hard working, kind, generous, and honest. And anyone of them with any level of education would agree with what I said about some of your countrymen/women; in fact many of them said it to me before I even came here. I can be just as patriotic about this country as I can about my own. My kids were born here, that makes them English .... for their sakes I will instill as much pride in them about this country as I can. And my Gran is a Scouser who served during the war as a nurse - so I'm not so far removed from this place. If you allow your countrymen/women to slate other nationalities without equally pointing your fingers at the nationals who are just as bad, or worse, you're nothing but a hippocrite. Why is it that every one who dos'nt agree with you is uneducated or a hypocrite, look back through my posts and you'll see that at no time have i been disrespctful to any race of peoples. but you have launched straight into a tirade of vitriol as soon as i suggest we shouldnt run britain down. Now, i only mention the following because i think its pertinent, i have travelled extensively, i've lived 5 years in east asia, 2 years in germany, i've worked in America, Australia, Cuba for varying lengths of time, and been just about everywhere in Europe that you care to mention. While i was a guest in these countries i would never dream of pointing the finger at their social shortcomings, i'd rather concentrate on the positives. The only thing you, however could think to write about us was demeaning. Never in all my travels have i known a place, where a ruling party encourages negative feelings in its people for their place of birth, except modern Britain. As far as i'm concerned you dont have an opinion, you're just putting over the shite you've been fed through Eastenders or Emmerdale or whatever crap it is you watch I wont speak on the subject again, because its obvious you havent a clue what im trying to say. The rest of you out there who know what i'm saying but are licking her ass anyway, should be ashamed of yourselves. Foxfan my original input in this thread was not aimed at you, more at the other, less thought out and more obviously idiotic replies. But since you chose to pick on me, I shall return the favour. The only reason I can say what I've said about SOME of the people in this country is because - again I reiterate - it happens in every country. Same thing happens in my country as a matter of fact: you get people everywhere who will happily take the piss if given half a chance. And I can say the government and politics in my own country can be equally as shameful as some in this country. Bear in mind that I've worked in financial forensic investigations and know first hand how sly the government can be. I call it like it see it: I live in this country, I see shortcomings. I'm raising my kids here, so surely I have the right to voice my opinion the same as I would in my own country which has it's fair share of said shortcomings. But I love my country, I'm extremely proud of where I come from. Additionally, I'm extremely proud to have close roots to Britian and to be living here as well. So don't you wave your pompous finger at me, or tell me I don't have an opinion, or that my opinion doesn't count because you've travelled and lived here and there. I know what the positives are about being in the UK, seeing as I'm responsible for raising three British citizens. For the record I rarely watch Eastenders and NEVER watch Emmerdale And nobody licks my arse unless I tell them to.
