I go lamping with a friend of mine who has a great lurcher which i enjoy watching i myself have a very fit weim of 1 year he enjoys running with the learcher but as you lot know its not his game. I really would love to get into this hunting sport thing and get him working as he should but he has such a nervous bouncy excitable pesonality i dont no if i can. so my questions are what can i do with him, where can i do it and has anyone got any advise on his excitability prob cheers everyone oh by the way he has four kids round him all the time so mybe i need to be carefull what i teach him ? They are very very slow to mature.........try about 3 before it stops thinking it's a pup. As slow maturing dogs they need pretty high level protein for long than most pups. Join one of the breed clubs & go along to there training classes. Plenty about for HPR's Quote Link to post
ferreter.al 22 Posted March 31, 2009 Report Share Posted March 31, 2009 alrite mate,my sister has two hungarian vizlas which are very simillar to yours in ways and different in others,they are really bouncy and a realy hadfull but i must say that some of that is down to them been alloud to run riot but thats that isnt it,im not really sure how you would hunt with a weimarana as the vizlas poin and are quite useful for falconry and things,do the weimaranas point? Garypco 3 Posted April 1, 2009 Report Share Posted April 1, 2009 alrite mate,my sister has two hungarian vizlas which are very simillar to yours in ways and different in others,they are really bouncy and a realy hadfull but i must say that some of that is down to them been alloud to run riot but thats that isnt it,im not really sure how you would hunt with a weimarana as the vizlas poin and are quite useful for falconry and things,do the weimaranas point? the vizsla and the weimaraner are a very similar type of hpr nd pretty much as closely related as ul get i work and keep both breeds.... so i guess i kinda qualify to give a little advice lol.... the weimaraner is quite late maturing... you never mentiond the age of the weimaraner you have?.some of the advice given so far is spot on get him into some training classes.do a little homework theres plenty of hpr training books and even dvd's out there...if you have a local shoot try and get in with the keeper find out about a day or two's beating go first without the dog and find a feel on how things work...then progress from there...even hang around the forum use the search facility and get a feel for things this way ul have some idea on how things can be acheived heres a few pics of the weimaraner im working at the moment he was a pet taken out of a council house at three years old as the people who owned him couldnt cope with the way he was..after about six months i had him out on the shoot and he worked a full season this year...to say i was gobsmacked with the way he progressed was amazing as i really didnt think hed acheive so much... so with a little work and some time probably a bit more than my dog as ive trained many a hpr in the years ive kept and worked them... even so good luck [bANNED TEXT]...keep this thread running as it would be great to find out how hes doing....
