Little Butch 16
As the Title said I'd like to make a Woodburner, I've got a Chimnea but I'd like something that I can cook stuff In Pans on etc.. My Dad's a Skip Lorry so can usually get all sorts of Metal Pipes and we've got a good selection of Tools that I'll be using. Anybody got Plans to make one? It'll be sitting In the Garden.. I think I've got some Exhaust Paint which I'll spray It with Butch

Little Butch 16
Well I've sourced a Butane Gas Bottle, just need to bring It Home and take the Tap off to let the Gas out before I even think about starting anything! Butch
woz 260
DONT TAKE ANY NOTICE OF MY ADVISE!!!!!!!!!! if you choose to use a gas cylinder use a propane 19kg,take some time to choose one with a nice ring around the bottom, there are a few diferent ones some look better than others on a finished stove....get a piece of 2" box steel and cut a slot out of one end so it fits over the valve the other end of the box weld a piece so it looks like a t...undo the gas valve and leave it so most of the gas comes out.use the box section spanner to unscrew the valve.(be careful you dont want any sparks at this point).anticlock....once the valve is removed use a hose pipe and fill the upright cylinder with water.(gas floats on water it will ensure all the gas is out)...the cylinder will smell of gas still after this proccess...once you have done this mark a line from the bottom of the cylinder about 20" up..use a grinder and cut the cylinder round.this will allow you to put a flat top on the stove.cut a hole for a door and dont bother making a grid if you plan to burn wood it will burn better on ash's....you will need to use a 4" pipe for a chimney minimum...... Little Butch 16
So cut the Top right off and then weld a circle of Steel on there to give a Flat top? Butch
woz 260
So cut the Top right off and then weld a circle of Steel on there to give a Flat top?Butch yes mate..you want to use a piece of 4mm steel for the top....mount the chimney hole right at the back so you get a bigger area to cook on as possible....if you get a piece of 4" pipe weld an 18" piece to the stove top and put a baffle in and you wont have to get your door to seal that well to get it to stay over night..we used to get a pirex dish and mount that to the door so you could see the fire.sounds naff works and looks great if done well..also if you can get hold of a plazma cutter, oxy sheet metal cutting nozzle or even a jig saw you could cut some rings into the stove top,so you can remove them when cooking...it really depends on your metal bashing skills...iv only got a few pics of the old burners and i havnt got a scanner to get em on a pc....... Little Butch 16
My Metal work skills aren't too good and I haven't got a Welder but I know people who will Weld for me How thick are the Bottles? Butch
woz 260
the cylinder's are 3mm mate....you can get 1mm cutting disks for a 4" grinder they are brilliant.....just have a go..(make sure you make the cylinder safe) it really isnt hard......
Little Butch 16
I'll give It a go, I'll pick the Bottle up Tomorrow and take the Tap off to let the Gas out overnight The first thing I'll do Is cut the Top off and then the Door.. After that I need to get hold of some 4mm Steel to put on the top. Butch
