Miss Tarka 3
At 7mths a dogs coat is generally not ready to strip...you may get some out of it quite easily now but it may not go short....we advise people not to start stripping until th dog is 9mths to a year as by then they should of lost all of their puppy coat...but each dog is different.... And with your other dog, how old is he/she?...you would need to try pulling it but i wouldnt say it was strippable yet...my friend clipped her schnauzer and had to wait a year to a year and a half before it was even slightly strippable....but again if it comes out easily then your on to a winner.... Muddyboots 2
A terriers coat is ready for stripping when it can be pulled out easy with the forfinger and thumb. Most show people start tidying their pups up at an early age which gets them used to standing for the job. they then do a good strip-job at about 5,1/2 months so that the coat looks good for showing at the 6 to 12 month puppy classes. Tidying up of the coat goes on throughout the showing season, in no-way does this spoil the terriers coat, infact it helps to inprove it!. Just one point to make never, never put clippers on your terriers coats because over a time you will ruin them, always strip! with forfinger and thumb or a stripping comb. Hope thats been of a little help?. Muddy. Quote Link to post
