denzil34b 0
Hi all, I have just joined the site and would love to hear from anyone with some sound advise for working my whippet. He is 15 months old and is keen as mustard. I have been training the usaul obiedience stuff and he is pretty good if not a bit stubourn some times. We exercise regually so he is fairly fit and i have some land permission for bunnies. I want to do him proud and not give him poor direction so any advise would be greatly recieved. clabby 14
just 1 tip keep it outside harden it up a bit ive seen a few whipps struggle when its wet and windy and cold they can struggle when its harsh weather mate espesh when kept indoors but get out thier and get on them when you think your dogs ready,,,you shall no when its ready bud i dont no how true that is about keeping the dog outside to hardenit up. i think thats down to the owner or handler weather they leave it out side /kenneled . i keep my dog inside mainly because there so many thieving nobs around my way that will nick any lurcher or terrier to flog to gypos for cash also he is not just a tool he is a pet he will run any weather. rain wind or snow. admitedly kenneled/out side dogs seem to be very very good workers. but if its been kept inside keep him in dont put it out in a kennel you will confuse it. to teach it to run you are better off letting it run with a exspearienced dog or take it out during the day and show it the rabbits and keep it focused and watching it then get as close as posable then slip him it will lern soon enuff to turn faster after it has over shot a few. a good dog will run out side the beam and then take the rabbit at the last minit i never talt my dog to do it he naturaly just did it but i think they pick things up quick enuff clabby Quote Link to post
