hw59 0
was wondering what you guys use for hunting and as ive only ever used 22 what are the advantages of 177 or 22 any help would be great as i would prefer a flatter shooting rifle With 12foot pounds as standard power,I'd say it depends at which range you take most of your shots. On a wood Where I shoot,90% of the shots are under 30yds so I use a .22 as there's not a big issue with the trajectory. There again,I shoot over some open ground and most shots are between 30-40yds,I use a .177 for that shoot. I'd use the .22 all the time if it had the same trajectory as the .177. Hope this helps you. Quote Link to post
Timelord 0
.177 caliber in a sub 12ft/lb rifle all the way Quote Link to post
SEAN3513 7
no no no shot placement over calibre all the way cheers sean Quote Link to post
the Verminator 0
no no no shot placement over calibre all the way cheers sean i agree, u could shoot 1 through the back legs from side on with a centre fire rifle and that might not kill it, both calibers will kill if you can put the shot in the right place. use what u know, so if ur happy with ur .22 then stick with it, but if ur not then change to .177 or get it uprated to FAC Quote Link to post

Is that the first time you've seen a which is better, '.177 or .22' thread on here? If it is it won't be the last fecker! I've heard so many folks so many times banging on as to why they prefer one over the other, but hardly ever dureing one of those 'chats' will anyone say that they are just different. I wouldn't waste my time saying witch (if any) I like best, 'cos whatever's said someone else will always come back with a 'yeah-but'! Still, it's a giggle watching folks defend their corner. Even if they don't always understand exactly what they're defending. Quote Link to post
Halfinch 51
It's like asking which is best Pork or Lamb? But if you prefer a flatter shooting rifle then .177 is a flatter trajectory. Edited March 31, 2009 by Halfinch Quote Link to post

Guest air gunner
From what i have heard and seen it is mostly down to preference. .22 apparently have a larger impact meaning a more powerfull blow think about getting poked with a stick this will have a sharp pain then think about getting punched with a large fist this will knock you over. The other thing is apparently .177 are more accurate at longer ranges. although i have shot a .177 and a .22 at the same bit of tin and they both make the same size hole. hope this helps Quote Link to post
