hard o bayers

Recommended Posts

what do people prefer there terriers to be.hard on quarry o bay?....eg earth dogs..and what do u keep..

i prefer a bayer to be honest, nothing as bad as havin a dog layed up for weeks cos he's in bits..

But a bayer would haves to be a stayer!

All said i keep and have kept both types n neither is a burden, just their individual way of work, its up to you to choose where and when they work.....

As long as the dog has a good nose, never leaves anything in ground and will bolt or hold quarry untill dug you cant ask for much more. If the dog sits back an inch and can be used time and time again without being entered whilst still healing then surly and asset to any kennel. Hard dogs tend to spend to much time in the kennel and not out doing what they are bred for!!!! Just my opinion though!!!

Could not agree more, for me bayer are the cleverer of the two, nowt worse than a dog thats head goes without regard to the damage it receives.

in my opinion you need a bit of both in a good digging dogs make up. some places the quarry is happy to sit up in this case a good dog will sit and sound till you reach him as he has no need to rush in for a hold which means he has took no un nessasary punishment .if you enter same dog to quarry that is pushing and trying to move at every oppertunity this were he has to get stuck in and pressurise the quarry till it make s a mistake and goes to a stop then they have to hold it there until the digger s arrive this is were the proper terriers prove there worth and in this case they have to work there quarry hard to keep it in the stop . so in my opinion a good terrier should be fit to switch between the two depending on the quarry .
