jazz_11 5
well as i am new to shotguns i am confused to which cartridges to use. i have been told to use a 5 for all round general cartridge and went to the shop and they only had 6's so i got some of them. when clay pigeon i use what ever the shoot sell i think they were 7's last week.. are 5 and 6's ok for a general cartridge i use eley coles cartridges as they seem a good cartridge.. what do you use and for what.. thanks Quote Link to post
Geoff.C 0
Sounds as if you are doing things right. I use 5s and 6s (mostly 6s) for general pigeon or rabbit shooting. For clays I use Eley first fibre in 7.5 or 8, with the odd 6s if a running rabbit clay is on. They can be a bit hard to break. For anything a bit more distant or going away fast, I move up to Eley "Blues", again in 7.5 or 8, whatever is available. Quote Link to post
the Verminator 0
u sound bout right, i use 6's for all game up to hares and then i go bigger, for clays it depends what disciplinary you are shooting, if shooting skeet you cant go wrong with 9's or 9,1/2's. for anything else (sporting, trad, etc) use 7's or 7,1/2's. just find cartridges that you are happy with, don't bumb you about too much and you can afford them. Sound...cover all bases with this selection, but many more choices for more specialist work. Quote Link to post

Sterry 0
As its been said, 6s will do most things 5s can, but 5s do it better in my opinion and i dont use anything else if i can help it. 5s i find have just that little bit more kinetic energy. suits me in my 20. and in the 410 6s on rabbits as thats all i can get my mitts on.
