Guest joe ox
Does anyone know how to work out the dosage for metacam? Iam told you give a dog 1ml to 10kg of bodyweight. The dog I want to give it to is around 45 pound. Edited March 29, 2009 by joe ox
J Darcy 5,871
Joe, I would be thinking that 1 1/2 ml would be suffice, but it depends on what you are treating. That drug is a wonder drug and i rate it up there at the top with rimadyl JMO......JD
lurchergrrl 1,441
Found this for you Jo: Initial treatment is a single dose of 0.2 mg /kg bodyweight on the first day. Treatment is to be continued once daily by oral administration (at 24-hour intervals) at a maintenance dose of 0.1 mg meloxicam/ kg bodyweight. For longer term treatment, once clinical response has been observed (after > 4 days), the dose of Metacam can be adjusted to the lowest effective individual dose reflecting that the degree of pain and inflammation associated with chronic musculo-skeletal disorders may vary over time. Particular care should be taken with regard to the accuracy of dosing. 45 pounds is about 20 kilos. ETA: meloxicam is the same thing as metacam.
