new to this

Hi all i'm new to the hunting life, and i'm after a lurcher or simula, but to be honest dont know where to start with the training.

i've got a lot of time on my hands due to lack of work.

can [NO TEXT TALK] give me good advice on how to start trainging a lurcher.

welcome mate ,depends what sort of hunting your after doing and what sort of permission you have,i started with a smallish dog for a few bunnies on the lamp and never looked back but then that is all i do there plenty of good people on here with more knoledge than i will ever hope to have that will steer you right ,good luck with whatever you decide on

Welcome to the house of fun so to speak try countryman's weekly this week pups out of biglandboy/grey/beddy been an got one miself ideal beginers dog not that am a beginer pup's out of last litter doin well DONT GO TO HANCOCK or any other puppy peddlin scum [ wisdom comes with age]

If your gettin your 1st lurcher and uve got time on your hands, ideal thing to do is get a pup...

1st time lurcher id go for a Collie X, very biddable n quite easy train..

As for training them, do the basics.. retrieving, recall, sit, stay..

While training them tho, keep it fun so you'll keep them interested.. I wouldnt do anymore than 20-30 mins a day..

And give em plenty of free running..

These are just my opinions and theres loads of good dog men here that will point you the right direction..

just 1 thing not to sure on what do you mean buy recall, is that the same as retrieving?? as i did mention this is my 1st lurch and need to learn all the lingo to go with it lol

Best bit of advise I have been given (and used several times as well) is to walk away when you get to the point you want to kill it :D, it,ll just tag long with you and just ignore it for a bit, good luck with it mate, got my first two last year, wouldn't be without them. Just be patient and put the time in, atvb Richard

cheers guys to be honest id only get the one dog if your new to the game, traing two can be a handful for even experienced dog men anyway all the best, always helpful dog men on here for advice :thumbs:
