sounds like a sore arse question but if its not ill give you an example went to a bit of land two weeks ago it had been shot over the night before i got 15 with the dog but found 6 dead and four wounded were only able to belly along the ground shooters are my heroes

To me shooting a rabbit isnt sporting. its dead END OF.

A/ air rifle one good shot END OF.

B/ One good run maybe a catch maybe not, but the rabbit has a chance.

well sometimes the only reason you are hunting on the land is too get rid of all the rabbits a gun is a more efficient way to me

i prefer the thrill of the chase,a catch who cares,just a good run,harder the better,like to see the dog going for it,nothing better air rifle,aim, fire, dead,simple as that jmo happy hunting

raiderboy buy a decent lurcher or spend more time there,with ferrets and terriers or get some help off people off here its a sport.at the end of the day not a mass cull bloody guns get a decent lurcher.

My mates carry pistols while out for a mooch with our lurchers and hawks. The guns are for people, the dogs and hawks for hunting game. You run into some sketchy people out in the desert.

depending on the terrain and rabbits been the quarry, you def get more with an air gun. so if pest controll is your aim thats the way, but im in it for the sport so lurchers all the way. also if you was mouching round a wood and bumped into a large fallow stag it would take some stopping with a 22 pre charge,...unless you threw it at it and took a few close range shots......but then ive never been stalking so i dont know how easy that would be....cheers.

A lurcher is a living thing, its predator against prey. A gun is easy and convient and lazy. Ok you can still walk miles with a gun but you can also go in any spot of land and kill something. As the the fellow saying he would rather see a spaniel and shot over it, well he is contradicting the question, as it is the dog what is doing the work, so really he would rather see a dog than gun.

A lurcher has a brain, it has it senses, and can talk to you in its own language(lurcher guys will understand this). The buzz of a rabbit moving at full pelt with a lurcher close behind it which has worked for the last 5mins in heavy cover to flush it, far excelerates over the pull of a trigger. The only time i use my gun is when i have a spare 5 minutes and i need some easy ferret food, ie, bird carcass, rabbits sat over walls while driving along etc.

depends on what i am going for but i get more fun out of the dogs becouse you have to put more time into them. for game birds it whould be the gun becouse my dogs dont run up trees yet.

like i said, depends on terrain. where i live you do well get 10/20 rabbits on the lamp. my mate shoots on the lamp and offen gets 30 plus. rabbits are offen close to cover in little groups of 3's n 4's. my dog might get 1 where as a gun might get 2 or 3. mind you i think he as rim fire and not an air gun. any way im a lurcher man but just been honnest.
