I would say take your time, dont try too much too soon.......my lad took over a year to even start to mature and he still not there yet at nearly 3!!

He was/is also a very frustrating dog, so try and keep your head......if things are not going well, leave it and try again tomorrow.

Good luck and keep us informed of how the dog gets on

i start mine lamp training at around 7 month but all depends on the maturity of the dog

on how much you do with it,

also its good if you can take your pup out with adult dogs to let it

watch them working in the lamp too.

try not to do to much with your pup to soon or it could end up yapping

behind everything it runns.

congaratulations on your fist lurcher and welcom to THL.

lofti

lisen get your self a ferrit and get some live rabbits for him or her at about 6 to 7 months and let him chase in a nice big field to get him keen and going and let him taest blood and then go out with a friend and let him run in a pair with a older dog

Why wait so long to train it, you can start from the moment you get the dog with the basics.....maybe I've misread your post. As most folk have said dont be in a rush little and often. By the time he's ready for work he should be a well trained dog. Good luck!

i never run any pup till its a least 12month old. just do all basics let the dog mature and take things slowly with it. mine will be 2 in summer so next winter will be his 1st season lamping. i was lucky i had and old irsh guy who had ran lurchers all his life and when i got mine. i learnt alot off him. one of the tyhings he said to me was now remember ' slowly slowly catchy the monkey '. never rush your dog just because they are grown in the body does not mean they are grown up mentally

yes i agree about training but to hold a dog back till it's 12month old especialy one with a lot of prey drive can be dangerous for the dog i.e not used to wire and other object's [bANNED TEXT] running live quarry'any way good luck with the pup

I will give you some more advice lad, take no notice of nonsense like this post above........this cretin has probly ruined more dogs than enough and I just dont think a dog of the cross you have will be ready for all that at 7 months........wait and then wait some more ;)
