devonlad 0
Have tried a few sources for some speed dip to rejuvinate my traps but it is ether unavailable or expensive to get over from the US. Are there any other products or concoctions which are available and will do the same job ?? Quote Link to post
120-2 8
You can use hardwood ashes like oak boiled up alternatively use Logwood Dye which is readily available in the UK for dying fabric but works ok on bodygrips. Both will give a black / brown colour. Edited March 27, 2009 by 120-2 Quote Link to post
IanB 0
Some keepers I know use potassium permanganate.. Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
Auto spray paint will give the traps some protection from oxidisation - some of my old traps were almost pristine under thick coats of old black paint when I cleaned them up. I seem to think that JohnB imported a load of speed-dip from the USA - try him, he might be able to help you OTC Quote Link to post
IanB 0
The spray paint blends the traps in well, but comes off easy when the trap is in use, especially along the jaw/spring areas... Quote Link to post
devonlad 0
I just want to remove the fine layer of rust and verdigris which most in use traps suffer from.. John is no longer importing the speed dip .. too expenive he's told me. DL Quote Link to post
stephen58 1
Hi Ian B , excuse my ignorance , but how do you dye traps with Potassium Permanganate ??? thank you and best regards Steve Quote Link to post
snareman 3
Some keepers I know use potassium permanganate.. see the lads who tar the roads, the stuff that they pour between the tar joints to seal them, is similar to speed dip , and they have it in 50 gallon drums , mix it with unleaded fuel to the consistency required . Steve Albano 21
I've also heard that speed dip is essentially the same thing as roofing tar. I haven't tried it, but I've been told that roofing tar dissolved in gasoline will produce very similar results to speed dip. Quote Link to post
spiderpig 39
maybe a daft idea but would a blast with a sand blaster do the job? Quote Link to post
RatSnatcher 0
Can someone put a photo up of a speed dipped trap please, I'm curious to the finished look of the coating Quote Link to post
IanB 0
Formula one trap dye, bit more expensive although its water based saves mixing with petroleum and dries quick too.. Quote Link to post
RatSnatcher 0
Can someone put a photo up of a speed dipped trap please, I'm curious to the finished look of the coating Just out of the bucket,.... This Imbra Rabbit Trap will dry to a lovely Matt finish and the BROWN dye will permeate into every crack and pore But,.when using Speed Dip it is best to wait until you have a warm day..... All the best,..CHALKWARREN... ] Hi Chalky, I am suprised that they mix this with petroleum, we are told to degrease our traps as well as to remove manufacturing smells looking at your picture I cant see why used diesel oil wouldnt give the same effect, the picture looks like my tools after a oil change not to mention the Mrs sink Quote Link to post
Holdaway 2
Here are a few of my traps I speed dipped a couple of months ago. I also have some cammo paint (army issue) in aerosol form which dries to a matt enamel finish and will spray one or two with this and see if there is much difference. H Quote Link to post
