wild rover 548
Well like many of you my season is coming to an end, been a poor season weather wise, flooding and ice has limited outings, typical when I was bringing a pup on. However the pup is now nearly 15 months, she started daytime at 10 months and has been ferreting 4-5 times, catching between 100-130, she has hunted up and caught nealy 30 on her own. She has learned a lot, uses her nose well, hunts up with good prey drive, hopefully bears well for the future. Lets hear about your young dogs and how they have fared. Photos below 10 months to 14 months. Quote Link to post
fireman 10,869
Looks like it's coming on well mate,do you use nets or does she course them? good going either way really. My camera is full of new baby pics and if i delete the wrong ones i'm dead so haven't got any new pics of my pup as yet,but i'm very happy with how she's coming on.Have her out most days for a mooch with the other dogs and she is using her nose well, isn't affraid of cover or water and gets on anything that bolts. She has taken rabbits off the lurchers and has brought them straight back to me so the retrieving training seems to be paying off,she also seems to have bags of stanima and hasn't slowed down ever when out with the other dogs and is allways up for a play around at the end of the day when were winding the dogs down.Totaly stock steady to ferrets although i haven't had her out on a hunting ferreting trip yet but runs around the patio with them and today when we were out we found a big old hob ferret in a bramble and she didn't bat an eyelid at it,she's been out on a lamping trip just running loose with another dog and soon got the hang of the lamp going on being worth a look and gave her her own little course at the end of the night. She is still very much a pup at 5 months but has some bulk on her and will be a chunk when she's adult, just letting her find her feet and stretch her legs and am well chuffed with her.Her guarding instinct is very good, she lets me know if anyone is around at home or in the field and is a trait i'll be using to my advantage .Just roll on next season. caterpiller 10
Thats a stunning little Bitch Wild Rover . I am over Moon with my Pup off Fireman, been on a few Ferreting trips with me just before the season finished, he was 100% steady around the Ferrets and Nets etc....... pushed the Rabbits into the Longnet and just stood Guard over them until i got there, Rabbits what hit the Purse Nets, he will GENTLY hold them until i get there which is ideal for me as i Ferret alone most of the time and the Dog can get to them much quicker than i can. I wish the Season was just starting off but never mind. I am away this weekend to Cheshire to measure up for my New Kennells etc..... so taking him with me to have a mooch round with. As soon as i get back i will get my Mate to come round and put a few pictures up for me of a couple of Ferreting trips i had with the Pup as it's beyond me, F*cking useless on these things . Yes mate pleased with her progress, she hunts up on her own, catches in field and cover, when ferreting we sometimes leave the odd net off for bolters for her, I also allow her to hold them in the nets and encourage her on sets, this has improved her set marking. The thirty or so she has caught she caught her self hunting sieves and hedges. Your like me we have a new grandaughter on the scene so all photos, ha ha. Sounds like you are enjoying your pup and she's coming on well, look forward to see the photos, have a look for the thread I put on about starting a lamping pup, dont want to teach granny to suck eggs but it works for young dogs. Keep the info coming , good to see them progress. Cheers. WR Quote Link to post

Ha get yourself some computer lessons ha ha, yep pleased with the pup, doing well, sounds like yours is coming on, keep the info and photos coming, during the summer try looking for the thread starting a lamping pup, not showing you how to bring your dogs on but it does help them. Then when the pups ready for lamping they know the score on first night. Good Luck. WR Quote Link to post
