hi i keep racers too, dont pay alot for them to start with ,try and get a couple of pairs , that are from the same person, and that the birds are the same family but are not to closely related, then you can swap them around, then you will have a little family line to try, give em a few seasons to gel and if no good get shot and try again, your shed is a nice size, but you might find it easier to split it in half, would make management abit easier

get yourself 2 pair of stock birds buy the best you can afford -- and get yourself say half a doz young birds .. you may find if your new to it some club members will offer up young birds for free .. you could be racing young birds this season .. if i was starting again i`d have a couple of pairs of fantails and use them as sitters to rear young from your stock birds that way you`d double up on your young .. when you go to the sale night see if you can get yourself some loft invites to see other set ups-- pigeon men are a wary lot so you might get told to feck off .. feed the best grub you can get the training in for the young birds . get yourself on ebay always a bit of cheap gear on .expect a few loses and set backs but enjoy it and good luck .. -------------------- ko shamo remember when jh put the chicken shed photo up for you ??? he added some loft photos aswell can you do the link ---------- :hmm: forgot to add keep your ears open learn from the best ..

personally iw ouldnt get the best you can just get some sqeekers off of someone you wont need to keep them penned up for more than a week till you let them out

if you spend hundreds on good birds and lose them ur fuked

when i started ferreting i had the cheapest nets possible (i tort myself to ferret)

make sure if you get squekers they can see lots of the sky and the surrondings put them in a small parrot cage on the roof

if you can you buy from the best flyers around for an extra couple of quid.. you dont have to spend hundreds -- alf baker was a well known flyer in the 70s and 80s i remember he said to me i can pick a good un up for 20 quid that was in 1974 my wages where £11 a week  .. i`m not saying spend your life savings and money wont buy you success do your homework and buy the best you can afford .. when i started my uncle was a tele man he used to collect the coins out the rental slots -- they whr the days he used to collect from an old boy who raced pigeons he gave me 2 pair of delbars bred down from a pigeon called king pin my old man sectioned the back of the garage off and from these 2 pair i bred a handfull of young birds that i raced out of big rabbit hutchs i won 2 young bird races topped the fed and picked up 20 odd cards they used to give cards upto 5th place in those days .i won the best novice trophy the feds newcomer trophy young fancier of the year and enough pool money for a new shed i got lucky but i loved those pigeons and they loved me i think thats why i did so well with em .. feck it i`m getting some more watch this space :thumbs:

if you join your local club in sure a few lads would start you up,do lots of work at the club and make yourself useful,i set clocks etc and most lads will help out, dont expect to run before you walk as most clubs are very competative, but when you time one from barcelona at 700+ miles you will never forget it. there is a good site called pigeon chat you will get lots of help there.

good luck
