Cold Ethyl 63
It seems odd that hes been away so long hes on various sites and my fingers are still crossed someone returns him even just for the cash reward the lady has stated that it will be a no questions asked situation just really wants her dog back.Someone must have seen him somewhere.I think its doglost who have it up that you can NEVER legally own a dog unless you go through the right channels and report it etc
Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
You're right, by law you are supposed to report a found dog. IF you decide to look after it you must notify the dog warden, we also suggest vets & local animal shelters although they dont have to do that. If you want to keep the dog, you have to wait 28 days & complete paperwork. In the meantime the dog warden should visit to scan the dog for a microchip. If however it gets handed in to local stray dog pound they only have to keep for 7 days before they can rehome the dog or pts. The law does need up dating - we know that. 7 days isnt long enough to find a stolen dog. Even a missing one if its taken out f the area. Thats why I keep asking for you all to microchip dogs/ tattoo, taken regular photos. It wont stop dogs going missing but it will increase our chances of finding them- especially if they go through pound- they have to scan!
lurcherlass 5
I know microchips aren't infallible and do fail, the DWs scanners don't work, pounds just don't scan etc..............which is why all my own dogs have 'chips AND tattoos. We actually have one of our helpers who's trained as a dog tattooist now (yes FOR the dogs, not OF dogs ) and we can offer that service to anyone who adopts one of our dogs or lives around the West Yorks area. There is no sure fire way of stopping a dog being nicked, but at least 'chips and tattoos will help it to get home again
