shotty12 0
ive never tried it yet mate. i have fort about it but then the noise issue came into it i only have a 12 bore at the moment so iam quite interested to see the replys. Quote Link to post
mattydski 560
Yeah, occasionally lamp with a shotgun. Depends on the land as to how many I get. My preference is to shoot with a rifle though. Head shot, mean more useable carcass, less mess. etc.etc. Shot gun, if you are not eating them, is an effective form of control. If you are selling them, it is normally a no.no. Quote Link to post
patdahat 41
lamped with a 12gauge for about 10 years rabbits and fox windy night's are best always moving into the wind, fixed choke's half and full, BB for fox 30-40 yards, 32gram No. 6 for rabbits 30-40 yards. then we got a .17 Quote Link to post
masmiffy 82
Have done it for years using a 12G with 6's for bunnies. Two shoot one lamps and drives can cover a lot of ground quite quick. The noise is the big drawback for sure but it works for us. On one shoot close to me we used to account for around 1000 on the stubble until it was ploughed up! Also use a Ruger 10/22 semi with great effect and its a lot quieter! Quote Link to post

danebrewer10 6
I've tried it, it works best if its's slightly windy to blow your scent away, also to cover any noise up, also if the bunnies are really skittish, you'd be best off with a rifle, but get someone else to hold the lamp and stand out of the beam as with the first shot, the light from the lamp reflects off the powder particles and you can't see a damn thing! 12 bore with 30g no 6 Quote Link to post
FLATTOP 4,413
Have been lamping with my 12 bore single barrel hushpower gets rid of the noise problem when used with subsonic cartridges heres a pic of it not very good one will try and put a better one up. Quote Link to post
shotty12 0
flattop how quite are those subsonic cartridges and are thay still as good as normal cartridges Quote Link to post
whippeter69 88
flattop how quite are those subsonic cartridges and are thay stillas good as normal cartridges I was talking to the local gun shop dealer and he said that there not that different from say 2 yds away but the real difference is about 50yds+ away so they are quite good, especially for lamping Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
I occasionally lamp foxes with a shotgun as I don't have a FAC, although if i'm shooting rabbits I use an air rifle............... Quote Link to post
jackinbox99 41
flattop how quite are those subsonic cartridges and are thay stillas good as normal cartridges I was talking to the local gun shop dealer and he said that there not that different from say 2 yds away but the real difference is about 50yds+ away so they are quite good, especially for lamping With my .410 mossberg hushpower i notice a massive difference in noise between eley 3inch magnums and eley 3inch subsonic magnums. And thats when i fire the gun, so obviously its right next to my ear. So, the difference if you were standing 200 yards or so away must be even greater. With the 3 inch subsonic cartridges, the gun sounds exactly as loud as my unsilenced .22 air rifle. In fact it still amazes me to how quiet the thing is. Its just not like a shotgun at all. I dont know how the 12 bore hushpower compares noise wise as i havent tried it. Another factor with a shotgun is that the noise level varies depending on where you fire it. If your standing near a building then it will be louder. Quote Link to post
