Which Magnet & Decoy Set?

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd get peoples views on which Magnet to buy and with which decoy set?

I've seen a number of magnets...ultra-lightweight, professional, ones with dead bird cages, the list seems endless!

Then there's the decoy set....Air-Pro or Hypa-flappers!

I've heard the Air-Pro are'nt that realistic but also the Hypa-flappers are fragile and prone to a good wind??

Any recommendations or views?? :hmm:

Thanks for the help

its like anything else pal .money is the object on the magnet, however. its not be all though. as for the decoys. try to keep 10 in the freezer. that way the real thing is the best option. i have a good teacher, not the most patient but good at what he does. been going a fair few years and still learning and enjoying the sport. do your home work, watch them for a few days and you can still manage to get it wrong.. have a good day at it pal and if i can help/ let me know.

with you on that one Lampshy keep as many as you can in the freezer and use them as Decoys on the magnet !!!

tip cut one of the legs off when you take them out of the freezer so that you know which ones you can give to the inlaws :clapper::clapper::D

try and get a flapper it will work alot better that the magnet if you have the right setup.

the ultra lightweight is what it says !, good for carrying around. the hypa flaps that come with it are very very realistic in flight but as has been mentioned are no good in a very strong wind as the steel arms are blown backwards. however what i do is take them off the machine and use them as a static flapper and when shoved into the ground at the back of the pattern they are the absoloute business

Thanks for the info guys......I didnt think anyone was going to reply!

Its strange as a number of people have mentioend to me that a flapper can be better than a magnet...cheaper too.

Lampshy you are lucky to have a teacher, im finding it difficult to learn from books etc but you got to start somewhere I suppose.

i have only ever seen 1 flapper working and when i thought it was a hawk on a pigeon or something like that. i have a magnet and i love it. the only thing is sometimes you are just best off taking it down. but when it does work you sometimes cant reload fast enough, they are brilliant. another advantage magnets have is that you can use them on standing rape or corn, not sure if you can get flappers high enough or not. personally i would get a magnet, but in the end its your choice. good luck with what ever you choose

the magnets are ok some days and a pain in the @rse on others, if you are working a large field and the Pidgeon are landing in a different area that is when you need the magnet. take the thing to where the pidgeon are landing even if it is 100 yards away and set it up ! insted of Hyper Crap or anything else put 2 white plastic bags on it and turn it on ! one thing is for sure the Pidgeon will not be landing there again which in turn means you have more chance on the decoy pattern.

if you get some spring steel that is between 7 - 8mm and 2m long you can push about 50 cm into the earth and attach the batterie flappers to it and when it is windy they also go up and down better action than and whirly.

if you need some tips to patterns and set ups have a look on here I have put up some PDF's of formations and pattern even how to build a hide or PM me if you like.
