The thing most people dont realise is a good set of visible abs is more about diet than exercise....a lot of people have a good set through normal day to day activity they just dont know it because its covered up by a layer of fat.....ive lifted weights for many years and in the off season they are not visible however with a competition round the corner and a diet adjustment....out they come.

Crunches would be the best bet but if you have back trouble then probably best dealing with that before taking up any strenous exercise.

I have a fairly good diet & since walking more i have noticed my legs have began to tone up quite well , i will give the sit ups another go & try that again

Thanks for the replys

I would like to know if theres a better way of toning my abdominal area up without doing sit ups, they kill the bottom of my back , i dont want to go mad just try to tone the area up a little bit, i walk about a mile a day as well & think i am fairly fit in general

Thanks in advance

Its exercise mate, if you're not putting the effort in then you wont get results and IMO real effort will result in some pain that you have to work through until your back is strong enough for you to do these exercises without it causing pain.

Don't over do it, and don't do it if its excruciating pain, but it will be uncomfortable to start with.

Sit ups, Crunches and leg raises will help tone stomach muscles, but then it all depends on how much fat you have over that area. If you can't get the results with the exercise then you may have to put some changes into what you eat from day to day.

Best of luck with it.

Try getting a dvd Kay ... I've got Davina :D My abs are killing me, but in a positive way

I've changed my eating habits, cut out my sugar and bread (and, sadly, chocolate and cheesecake) .... here's hoping it won't be too hard to get back to where I was not so long ago.
