Right to ramble?

Recommended Posts

dear all,

the "right to ramble" in the UK is still unclear to me. What does the new legislation mean? Can anyone go free now on all farmland? can you block people from your terrain if you want to?

I know that trespass isn't a criminal offense, merely a civil one so it's very difficult keeping anyone off the land. I've got trouble with metal detectorists due to an undug Roman villa on one of my farms and those f*ckers know the law inside out

sorry for my ignorance on UK law, but how is a civil offense handled?

it isn't possible to keep the golddiggers out then?

Say I own a farm or an estate where I don't want anyone on, what should I do?

May I build a human proof fence?

We've spoken to the cops about these diggers and they can't do much. We can get them on destruction of property when they pull fences down, but other than that we just have to tell them to sling their hooks. I've lost count of the number of times I've been told to shoot them :D

No shit...if I would own a piece of land in the UK I have to let people walk on it?

So next time in London...when I jump the fence of some grandma's garden and walk around there, stand a bit and have some lemonade...I am allowed to do that as I don't disturbe or litter and she has to use reasonable force (?) to get me out.

But seriously that can't be the case...if you own property you have to be able to prohibit use/walking by strangers or not?
