jasper65 6
There's a couple of fields a few Hundred yards from here which used to be hit regular! it was always a good indication as to how hard the local farms was going to be hit with Mixxy. thankfully over the last couple of years I can happily say I havn't seen one with mixxy there or around the farms .... weather this is a Indication of Rabbits stageing some type of fight back I have no idea but its looking better in this area.... cheers Jasper Quote Link to post
bigrifle 24
I posted on an earlier thread we had some back in november, in only one area its now spreading fast and seems to be a very strong strain as its killing the rabbits never seen so many dead, fecking horrible disease Quote Link to post
jazz_11 5
can you IMAGINE the numbers if there was no mixi, it was layed down round the 2nd world war time (i think) by farmers. they showed it on "Kill it, Cook it, Eat it" it was in a white powder form. but we can only imagine the numbers and sport we would have if it didnt exist. then again more farmers would be troubled by them farmers want them gone. but when out shooting we like to see good numbers... so if the numbers were greater than they are it would be better sport more people would have permission. great for us but not so good for the farmers... cheers jazz Quote Link to post
jasper65 6
I'm sure I heard somewhere that some Rabbits have developed a imumity to the desease . is it also true that you can take a domesticted Rabbit and have is Vaccinated against Mixxy? It makes you think that if this is the case then some of the Wild Population could be caught and Vaccinated!! expecialy in a area where your sport is being lost due to the big outbreak, Ok Farmers would have the arse but at least they could be controlled sportingly and not wiped out by Mixxy... Just a opinion lads Jasper Quote Link to post
happyploughman 1
Seen more mixi my way than usual for spring usually get a lot more harvest time, but I know each year varies a lot in diff areas. People still spreading the ill rabbits about. A horrible death and a waste of good food. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Only seen one live mixy rabbit, and one dead in 3 years around here. Quote Link to post

cyclonebri1 8
I know a place thats gets some ever year, but you can still shoot 100 rabbits in a morning. In contrast my local farm got overun with rabbits about 15 years ago, I/we shot and ferretted them out but only a wave a mixxy controlled them. Only over the last 2 years are they starting to reappear Quote Link to post
paulus 26
where i live (leicestershire) its alive with it, the buzzards are doing a grand job of clearing them up when a warren gets it you can see loads of them waiting to pick them off as they come out of cover. when the rape was being cut 90 rabbits were shot with over 70 having mixy Quote Link to post
Markkey 0
I went again last night to see only 2 rabbits on around acres of farm land. Over the last month myxomatosis, I presume, has almost completely wipe out any rabbits that were there. I've been assured that it should recovered in a couple. Quote Link to post
Guest warren
Im pleased this topic is here! I have rabbited for 40 years and most years I have had myxy on most farms I visit. This year things are very, very different, this myxy, or strain of myxy is like I hasve never seen before. Its not only wiping hole colonies out it seems to affect its host much more serverly than I have ever known. I will get some photos when I'm next up the Dale. Regards Warren Quote Link to post
