TECHNICAL QUESTION

I got asked this question recently and i didnt know so i thought i would ask you lot.What power would a 22 airgun shooting crosman premiers have to be to have the same trajectory as a 12ftlb 177 shooting the same premiers?

But would have thought that you would not be far off if the pellet velocities matched. If the .177 is 25% faster would he .22 need 25% more power? experiment required me thinks! lol!

Trajectory is mostly related to velocity, so assuming the .177 is doing 800fps, the .22 would need to do the same, which is 20.32 ft/lb.

It's not that simple. The lighter .177 will slow down faster than the .22 even though it's smaller. It gets complicated with all sorts of aerodynamic and ballistic maths that are for brighter folks than me to work out!

It'd be an interesting experiment though.....

Agreed, it won't be spot on, but at airgun ranges, you'll do well to notice the difference.

Good point. Out to 40 or 50 ish yards, I don't s'pose it'll be too far apart.
