martin 332
The last but one shot was very low ,and, most likely means there was a deer running around on three legs, and suffering a slow and painful death.I am afraid that I just don't see that these people are giving their quarry enough resect. perthshire keeper 1,239
why is that not on then ? 90% of shots on deer are to the heart and lungs and verry few of them drop to the sport you need to hit the spine or head to do that so most will run have you shot many deer? drwolly 8
What, theres long range shooting then theres shooting to kill your quarry as you should.....the second one got away, how do you know it bled to death within 100 yards? are you physic or something? not very sporting if you ask me, 300 yards is a long enough shot if you ask me Quote Link to post

I'm not sure where you get your information, perhaps the BDS..how do you make the assumption..... 90% of shots on deer are to the heart and lungs and verry few of them drop to the sport you need to hit the spine or head to do that so most will run have you shot many deer? And I have to ask .....have you shot many deer? because the above statement is NOT my experience!! Quote Link to post

perthshire keeper 1,239
now i dont want to fall out with anyone hear but yes deker i have shot quite a few deer i have a cull of 40 roe does (plus whatever else i can pick out)and 10 bucks aswell as 30 red hinds and 5 stags i have been stalking for 4 years now so yes i have shot a good few deer.. hiho have you heard of i high shoulder shot the bullet will hit the upward curve of the spine droping the animal in the spot and it will almost always be dead befor you have walked over to it handy if you are stalking in christmas tree plantations like me or very thick woods but yes if its hit to far back along the spine its back end will drop and it will try and crawl off not a very nice thing at all,as with all stalking the bullet placement is important ..just out of interest whereabouts in cumbria are you from?
