APBT X Greyhound

i dont know of anyone who owns or works this cross, and i cant understand why anyone would.using american pitbull in lurcher breeding,is going backwards, not forwards.we should be striving to breed lurchers with brains, good feet, good coats, and less aggression, dogs like these cant be classed as allround hunters.if its pig hunting you do,then these would do the job, but each to their own.regards collie john.

Turk,

 What is your viewpoint? :D

nikey, simonman, yous hav got it all in one, well done to ya lads for having this sensible dog sense behind yous :good:

Sorry to say this but this site really stamps on people who show any dislike of bull bred lurchers, i think to use a dog which has only been bred for fighting and not hunting will not give you an all round lurcher. Most seem to be hard mouthed fox killers which is fine but hardly an all rounder.

You say that the bull terriers have only been bred for fighting...so why are they called BULL terriers ? Also then by you own admission why use a dog thats only been bred to herd sheep ?

no one said, that bull terriers have only been bred for fighting, and regards people showing any dislike to bullcrosses, what a load of bumcum.each to their own ,butcollie crosses makebetter rabbiting dogs.regards collie john.

no one is trying to convert anything, when people try to put their own opinions forward, people get to personal, this site should welcome and respect people with other breeds than bullcrosses, who work their dogs on rabbit and hares, and not just fox and deer.i dont hate bullcrosses, but i would not own one,and thats my opinion.regards collie john.

so now your saying bullxs dont get used on rabbits and hares  ,and if you would'nt own one thats fair enough but dont knock people who do,but do yourself a favour pal get out with people who own and work bullxs before you slag them off and you'll see there's more to them than your single minded opinion  .

My APBT bitch is just comining into season and I like to put a greyhound over her to get some "fast grabbers". Is anyone breeding these and if so any pic available and are they any good.

These are my thoughts, i own a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 american/pitbull and for saying they havent got any brains this is the cleverest dog i have had up to yet and he is only 1 1/2 year old....i havent tried him on fox yet i will do later on this year...all i have done so far is lamping and alot of ferreting and god does he make a good ferreting dog...he works cover like my terriers and they are good cover dogs.

Over the years, i have had lurchers there is only one i can say is has good as him is my whippet/greyhound bitch the one i have wrote a story about on this foram at his age.

I have had belington x, collie x, the opinion of a collie x they are not as good as they make out i would take you out to prove my dog is has good as i say.

Going back to the bull blood what do you think they put into the greyhounds 100 years ago to give the dogs more stamina/brains and aggression on there running same as the whippets :good::good:

Judging by your name i guess you like/keep collie X's. I suppose you right in you assumption that collie's are more intelligent but a good bull has got brains too. Its not as if they are dumb feckers. Also i'm sure the lads who keep bull X's would say what they lack in brain they make up for in determination. Feet are a problem on a lot of bulls admittedly. Coat...? It's no worse than any other smooth coated dog. They have skin thats as strong or stronger than any other breed so that is a plus. Aggression, well should we really be saying that bull X's are aggresive ? How many times do we hear "its the owners not the dogs". Also can you tell us what you want the dogs to be "less aggressive" against. I grew up with bull terriers of all descriptions and only saw one that was aggressive towards people and that was a result of its up bringing. And you bring up the 'golden egg' the all rounder....is there one ? A true one. I'm sure people far more experienced than me will have stories of collie X's that dont 'come up to scratch'.

Intelligent responsible attitude and reply to those narrowminded individuals out there Nikey :good:

My tuppence worth is they suit my needs I own 4 assorted bull crossess and the only complaint i have is they can be over keen but id rather that than the opposit good luck with the mating steaminggutpiles and keep us all informed :good:

I think most of the bull in the lurchers on this site are APBT which are bred for fighting and not bull baiting, also the herding instinct in the colie is only a form of stalking its prey, it's just the shepherd stopping the dog make the final kill which i'm sure it wants to do.

I must admit i was a little pissed up when i made my comments but theres nothing wrong with a lively debate and many of you guys have some cracking looking bull crosses.

I agree there superstriker, imo you wont beat a colliex lamping hares, saluki boys might catch more in the daytime but the colliex we run dont run daytime, never have. Has you said look on the minshaw thread for proof of that. :good:

Why dont people go out and catch daytime hares (jan hares) or does it take a good dog to catch a jan hare....never slipped my dogs on a lamped hare and never will do....its the altimate catch to see your dog catch a jan daytime hare that is the proper sport...if not why do they do all the big avents in winter time :yes:

First x bull, grey, used primarily for bunnies, day, night, with furts with terriers. Has a huge brain, eager to learn and please. As someone else stated with their bullx's her only failing could be she gives too much.
