thurso jack 3
Went out this evening to do a bit of ratting after going out sunday and getting quite a few but being so hungover i forgot the camera so went out again to see if we could get some pics, not as good a do as the weekend but its always the same when you have no camera. Fletcher from here came along with his 6 month old pat to give it a look and he did well, once hes a bit older the rats wont have a chance as two dogs working the permission we have will be spot on!! Anyways heres some pics of some of the action. A nice warm up on some mice. fletchers pup catches his first mouse and nails it, had to pull him off it, a good start for him. Tara gets in amonst the rats below, there was half a dozen here but this one gave her a bite and she wouldnt let it go for a min or two as she was a bit pissed, so the others got away. another one caught. the farm we were on, look at all the holes in the wallls, you can see where they all run to. tara ready for home with a sore face all in all a nice way to spend an evening! thurso jack 3
Didnt get big numbers, but thats not what its all about, as a few of you will remeber i came on here 7 or 8 months ago as green as the grass, so me and the dog are just learning the ropes still, but im pleased and so is the mutt with the way things are turning out. She got her first bite lastnight which is why a few more got away than should have done, she doesent normally hang about on dead rats but as i say this one bit her and she didnt like it so it got mauled for a good five minutes, she didnt want to put it down incase she got another nip. But one thing i have learned is always trust your dog, a few times she was marking from where rats had previously bolted and i thought she was just marking old scents but sure as day after a bit of digging another one or two would come out. Guest MOLLY
I personally dont think its about number anyway, for me its about my dogs. Our usual numbers are from 2 to 6 most times, but the dogs still have to work as hard as they do for 20, and they love it, regardless if its 6 or 60. MOLL. Quote Link to post

Kye 77
Although killing LOADS of rats in one session is GREAT, numbers are not that important...i remember when i killed 10 in an hour with Bricca when she was about 16 weeks old...she was marking, killing, and droping rats like a Veteran...easily one of the proudest moments ive had with dogs... thurso jack 3
we managed double figures, in about an hour and a half, not great by some standards but considering most of the action takes palce in a 15 min period we were happy, any that were chased and not just seen diving into a hole in a wall were accounted for.
