what to put over a silver jill

yes i know best worker to worker is the best way to go but what would you breeders out there put over there silver jill to get more silvers or black eyed whites .what about a sandy carrying silver genes or would you go for a albino hob . look forward to your answers and whys ,please no slagging of why you want to breed for colour just good advise what you would do

thats opening up yet another can of worms, as poorly marked silvers can moult out to an albino coat, thus looking like a black eyed white as you put it, I have two jills here that could easily pass as BEW's, which then starts the disscussion, do BEW's really exist, or are they moulted out silvers

have done this pairing two seasons on the trot, with 3 silver jills, never produced BEW'S only silvers, albino's and polecat, not saying it cant be done, but someone could mistake a poorly marked silver, as a BEW

how did silvers come about in the first place ,any one know ,what breeding etc . i know the usa are big in the pet side of ferrets so they may have bred them first

You won't.

 

The white of albinos and the white of BEWs has different origins.

Colour in animals is due to cells called 'melanocytes'. These produce melanin which gives the ferret its' colour. Albinos have melanocytes but they aren't 'switched on'. BEWs dont have melanocytes.

Ive had some funny colours using my silver hob need to dig out some pictures of the kitts and all the feed back said they went on to become good workers

i put silver hob to a light polecat jill and got 4 silvers and 2 polecats i think bew cross with albino is the way to breed bew
